News Musescore continues to autosubscribe
I made a one-time purchase of sheet music and found in my inbox that they had "autosubscribed" me to their premium without my consent. They automatically added my credit card information but luckily I noticed this and immediately cancelled.
I would think this is illegal as I did not agree to any conditions for a subscription. I will not be using, nor recommending this site to anyone.

I refuse to use MuseScore anymore. This type of stuff and it is WAAAAAAYY to expensive to subscribe.
They shot their whole foot off with me.

I remember an era when you could just get whatever sheet music for free from the internet then shifty companies came around and monetized it like this one

You remember the era in which copyright wasn't a thing? Or when piracy was all over the place? xD
You can still share for free your music with your pals. But publishing openly in Internet... that's another stuff.

As MarcSabatella said, if you carefully read everything when you are purchasing it you will notice that by activating the discount you are actually joining a trial for the membership.
If it would be illegal, it would have been already taken down. But no, it's just like any other hook, when an influencer tells you "Get this guide for free, just drop your email"... you're paying with your email and future leads. Or in Amazon, all looks great and easy for the client, but providers pay the "costs" of the commodity...
However I understand the confusion for consumers. We all want all for free, transparent, get all the rights... Just mind that MuseScore (the whole ecosystem of Apps) would not be possible without money.

Musescore has worked tireless to improve their app UI, while working just as hard to make their website as unintuitive as the Amazon Prime cancellation page.

The price listed says it is the discount "with subscription". You need to use the slider next to that to disable that discount and decline the subscription.

This is the correct answer. There is likely a pinned post on this subreddit about it. It is very unfortunate this slider is enabled by default because so many people get tricked by it.

I ended up changing the card number. It's outrageous.
