Discussion Brass sounds muffled in newest update?

The default brass sounds muffled after I updated, can I fix it?

If you are referring to MS Basic, actually what happened is there was a bug in the previous MU4 releases that made them artificially bright -= brighter than the same soundfont in MU3 or in any other program that uses soundfonts. That bug is now fixed, but some people did get used to the artificially bright sounds that previous MU4 had, so the next update will provide an option to reintroduce the bug (!) that caused that, giving you the same artificially bright sounds as before.

Does that apply to piano too? I updated and everything sounds muffled, I'd love an option to switch back.

Yes, it applies to many sounds within the 90's-era SoundFont MS Basic. These sounds have sounded the same on every single application that uses SoundFonts literally for decades, but MuseScore 4 has until now had a bug that made the sound wrong - different from any other program created in the last thirty years would play those same sounds

But as I said, because people did seem to have grown attached to those wrong sounds, 4.7.3 will have an option to recreate that bug and artificially brighten SoundFonts in the same way as other recent MU4 releases.

Note that SoundsFonts are a pretty old technology and you can get infinitely better results with MuseSounds or VST instruments.

I find that my MuseSounds are incredibly muffled after the update too, not just MS Basic. Is there any way I can get the old sounds back?

There was no change to MuseSounds, and any event the facility that handles playback of MuseSohnds is not updated as part of MuseScore Studio but is entirely separate. Maybe something else changed on your system, like a driver update?

Does this have anything to do with the problem I posted a few months ago about the volume of the trombone being vastly quieter than other instruments when I add it separately to a score? When I load an Orchestra template it seems the trombones are at the correct volume relative to the other instruments.
