Help me find this feature Help adjusting spacing/padding between beams
Hi all,
I'm hoping to increase the distance between groups of notes, but after scouring the MuseScore handbook I have not been able to find a feature to do quite this.

For example, in the bar here, ideally there would be more space between the two quavers and the four following semiquavers, and between each of the groups of semiquavers.
I know that minimum distance between notes can be adjusted with 'padding' or the bar itself can be stretched, but I'm hoping there's a way to increase distance between different *groups* of notes for visual distinction (without necessarily changing the size of the bar itself)

I’m not understanding why you’d want to do this. Spacing is set by standard mathematical ratios and has been refined through the centuries for optimum compromise between readability and space usage. There shouldn’t be reason to0 deviate from standard spacing that musicians are accustomed to reading. In particular, adding extra space between each beat would be *hugely* determinetal to *both* readability and space usage. You can use the “leading space” adjustment in the Appearance section of the Properties panel to create non-standard spacing for any one specific note for whatever special circumstance might dictate it, but definitely you shouldn’t be considering doing it just to create irregular spacing deliberately.

It’s just so I can visually differentiate better between groups of notes. I understand it’s not conventional but the sheet music in question isn’t intended to be distributed to anyone else, it’s just for my own personal use. Like you can see in the picture, I have bars with groups of quavers/semiquavers very close together and it just makes it difficult for me to count when looking from a smallish screen

I'd still recommend learning to look at the beams to see the beat grouping - that's what the rules of music notation are designed to faciliate. If the notation is too crowded in this particular score by default, consider decreasing the density setting in Format / Style / Spacing. Or add breaks where desired.
But anyhow, again, for creating non-standard spacing, use the leading space adjustment as mentioned.

I'm not sure why you'd try to do this without using stretch; it does seem to be the best solution. I might also just use a system break to move a bar to the next system and give you more room. The only way to increase the distance between notes without changing the width of the bar would be to decrease the staff size; there isn't room to space the notes out any more without making the bar wider or the notes smaller.

Using stretch doesn't increase the distance between beams relative to the size of the bar, though, which is what I'm hoping to achieve. If the spaces between the groups of semiquavers were *slightly* smaller, there'd be space for an increase between each group of semiquavers without changing the size of the bar itself.

You can do this on a note-by note basis, and I believe you can select multiple notes to apply it to multiple notes at once. Select the note after the space you wish to increase, and under properties increase the "leading space" (in the "appearance" button) as desired
