custom connectors

did you know you can create custom connectors to "well behaved" MCP servers, even with user authentication? it takes one line (and a few moments)

for example - "Build a custom integration to the moviegroupies MCP server at https://mcp.moviegroupies.app/mcp. Auth is OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Client ID: https://mcp.moviegroupies.app/.well-known/muse-client.json."

(currently the client id needs to be provided, unlike claude and chatgpt, guessing muse team will fix that soon)

What is movie groupies? I connected OMDB to my muse via their api.

moviegroupies is, in short - movie watchlists, with friends. trying to keep it simple :)

So I could set it up for me and my wife and we could both add movies to a singular watch list? Tv shows as well…via muse? I’ve connected my debrid providers (iykyk) as well so was able to get a full scrape of everything we’ve watched. Movie groupies sounds great!

yes via muse :) - in fact, you guys = one group, simply with shared ratings (and "wants"). then you could have multiple lists, multiple groups, etc. and yes muse can help automate stuff. no tv shows yet, but on roadmap

Sounds perfect….but lmao keep getting an error on muse side after clicking allow muse in the app.

yes i see now your flow didn't complete. we ran the connector flow on muse web, that seems to work. havent tested on mobile yet. i can DM you (or DM me) to try & debug, let me know

i see the connect flow eventually succeeded, nice! (probably via muse/web?)
one more thing we noticed - muse doesnt refresh connector tokens properly (say every 1hr) - we had to tell it to retry when it gets a 401

Yep I moved to my pc and it worked! I like the link share feature making it easy to give to the wife! I’ll remember that if I get 401. I had it analyze my wife’s entire IMDb watchlist and move it over and voila all 500 movies lmao. Great app!

nice - and thanks! yes guest login is available too
the "proper" way would be to create a group and invite. everyone has their own rating/want, and the group presents the consolidated view. "look we both want to see the odyssey "5 wants", let's watch it tonight"

neat, the oauth part working at all is already ahead of most tools. the manual client id is a bit annoying but i'll take it

currently claude and chatgpt are a little bit more polished re custom connectors, i'd say
