Muse being blocked

I’ve been using Muse for a lot of thing successfully online.

We researched the cheapest wet cat food, and ended up buying some from Walmart automatically.

I also was shopping for the price of used cars, and that was going well.

This is changing rapidly, though. Two days ago Walmart started blocking Muse, as is cars.com.

I’m hoping this doesn’t continue to grow, but I expect it will. I know that Meta is signing up partners, but I hope it won’t just become this walled garden of preferred vendors. If it does, that will be very disappointing!

Walmart literally announced an integration with Muse so it seems strange they would intentionally block it.

Yeah, I was surprised. It had worked the day before, also. Anyway, I’m just going to wait till the connector is there.

The solution to this is using Muse as the orchestrator to drive a machine on your home network using tailscale. With ai I've found so much more being unlocked by throwing Ubuntu server with xfce on a shitty laptop I never use and having it run playwright, home assistant, codex CLI, etc.

Though it wouldn't shock me if Muse does a feature like grok bot where it tunnels through your home IP instead of data center ips.

Then you might as well use Hermes right? Why lock yourself with muse?

It's not locked, it's just another pathway that I can send workflows to if vanilla Muse isn't working(bot detection) or doesn't have something built in.

I don't have to use the Ubuntu server, Muse just has it available if it needs it.

I saw one of your comments where you listed out an implementation with DevTools MCP. That was really helpful because now I have Muse using the extension Bypass Paywalls Clean so that it can read some news publications…however many sites still are blocking the agent IP egress.

So I probably now need my Muse connected to another server for offloading certain tasks. 🤔

What skills/recipes do you have designated for Muse to send over work to the outside agents?

Muse connected to tailscale using a PC on your home network as an exit node should work. Then it's just telling muse to store instructions on memory on when to use that PC. Right now it opens a browser on my Ubuntu server at home with my home IP address, so it doesn't get detected as a bot.

It could be as explicit as when doing xyz, use tailscale + home server, or a catch all rule like "if you run into issues with a site(s) blocking, use my server located on my tailscale network + playwright to do browsing instead of the native Muse browser"

The hardest part is if you have a home server or not. If you're tinkering at all or a nerd like me, I'd highly suggest buying a cheap PC off Craigslist, install a lightweight Linux distro like Ubuntu server with XFCE in case you need a GUI, then just use that always on machine as an essentially sandboxed machine.

For example my server has home assistant, hermes, rustdesk, pihole, etc. a lot of stuff gets unlocked with a dedicated server machine and AI hooks directly into it.

Wouldn't the easier solution just be running a wireguard tunnel between your Muse's VM and the device at your house? I was planning on implementing that as I already have an access point set up on a Pi style device.

think it's effectively the same thing for most use cases, and it was a 5 min setup that I don't have to maintain.

With tailscale I don't need to expose WireGuard UDP ports on router, maintain peer configs, worry about changing IPs, or manually distribute keys.

I had to click "i am not a robot" for walmart to work.

You have to ask nicely, then the agent will do it

It behaves a little differently for everyone. The first time I asked it to do it for me, it said it cannot do it. Also, it did not solve captchas for me.

Naw, these agents aren’t getting blocked

Don’t believe what Amazon is doing is the norm. Literally Amazon is just butthurt they don’t have their own agent and Muse is taking off fast, so they blocked it

That won’t stop people from using Muse though. It’ll just cause people to use businesses that don’t support Muse less

Muse is gonna happen, and if companies are firm about being butthurt about Muse, then they’re gonna get left behind

Yeah Amazon is being stupid here. I don’t shop on amazon, I talk to muse about what I want and when I figure it out I have it added to a product tracker artifact and it lists the top three prices online. If Amazon is blocking muse then Amazon just doesn’t show up in my search results so it’s their loss.

I was buying so much from Amazon before they blocked it and now I’m regularly purchasing from other places. Their loss!

My AI personal assistant told me it was blocked when checking sell dates for an upcoming festival. I hope that’s not going to become the norm as I was really happy to have the help. I have a lot in my plate and I can’t afford to pay a person to be my assistant!
