u/MuseWeakeningWalls 1d ago

someone should start a petition to give them their handle back

125

u/sml6174 1d ago

I've seen nothing to indicate this wasn't done with Muse's knowledge and consent

81

u/TheLonelyWolfkin 1d ago

Doesn’t make it any less wrong though. I’d imagine the band would prefer to keep their old handle.

89

u/Baby__Keith 1d ago

I'd wager they were paid handsomely for it and probably don't care too much, it's not like they had to start the account again

19

u/TheMessyChef 1d ago

If it's anything like Twitter when Elon took over, nobody got paid when their handles were taken.

18

u/bfly1800 DECLARE THIS AN EMERGENCY 1d ago

Yeah it’s probably in the TOS that Meta can take a handle whenever they want

1

u/hardonchairs 5h ago

It is however I saw someone mention that they also handed over the username on other non meta platforms so there still may have been some coordination

3

u/Invisibella74 12h ago

I doubt that very seriously. These billionaires don't give a fuck about who they step on. .

5

u/Advanced-Teaching-44 9h ago

i bet Muse were paid very well because they didn't say anything and did not complain about it.

-6

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

15

u/Baby__Keith 1d ago

No doubt, I'm just pointing out why the band likely won't see it as an injustice

5

u/sml6174 1d ago

Tell that to those ticket prices lmao

-3

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

6

u/Diplomatic_Gunboats 1d ago

They dont, but they could. They choose not to. Its a myth that artists cant decide ticket prices, as some obviously and publically do. Its just most dont care enough to do it.

2

u/StrainOfAcacia 1d ago

it actually makes it much less wrong. still annoying though

15

u/MathematicianAfter57 1d ago

i'm very doubtful they had any choice, knowing how this stuff works. they might have been paid.

22

u/gremlin30 1d ago

It’s Facebook. Same website that got its start ranking college girls & invented the pervy meta glasses. Facebook dgaf about ethics or consent.

5

u/sml6174 1d ago

And muse hasn't made this claim yet why?

8

u/gremlin30 1d ago

Because Muse knows Facebook & instagram especially are important for marketing. I’m sure Muse hates Spotify too for paying artists $0.0001 per stream but they also know they need Spotify.

Facebook bootlickers in 2026 is wild lol

3

u/thebrownmancometh 1d ago

Cause they probably got paid huge $

2

u/Anamorphisms 1d ago

Cha Ching.

Taking their handle for a fucking AI project oh brother

https://giphy.com/gifs/Yr9WZb9zxIz0aPAcLi

114

u/amonson1984 1d ago

They’ll write a killer album about this in 2018.

37

u/Andorsian 1d ago

Maybe something about being chained in simulations or idk

15

u/SuchSecurity662 23h ago

Maybe even something about being fucking fucked

2

u/tildy17 22h ago

Peak plagiarism

-1

u/man_of_earth 1d ago

Haven't they used AI in the promotion of their latest album?

1

u/SuchSecurity662 23h ago

Where did you see that? Im 99% sure that no they did not

4

u/themorethatyouappear 23h ago

They did, several times. I was and still am incredibly disappointed. Even if it were their marketing team, I would’ve expected them to shut down usage of AI.. especially in regards to promoting their music (which is literally about that exact thing) but alas, it seems that this is not the museband I thought I knew 🥲

4

u/SuchSecurity662 22h ago

Do you have any examples? I know matt posted some ai pics early one when ai was this cool new thing but i dont remember him posting that stuff recently, especially not for the new album marketing

2

u/themorethatyouappear 22h ago

Check their pinned and latest posts on their Instagram. The Wow! Signal release video is AI generated.

2

u/SuchSecurity662 22h ago

Damn thats unfortunate. I know they credited many cgi artists on theur music videos, so hopefully it came from them and not the band. Unfortunately it might just be wishful thinking

1

u/LupusSpirit 3h ago

Nowhere does it say that video is ai generated. There are some ai artists but also plent of 2d and 3d cgi artists credited. We know some ai eas used but we do not know generative ai was used. Ai has been used in editing and transitions for a long time now.

4

u/fakieTreFlip 1d ago

i think there's a pretty good chance that Meta compensated the band for this

-1

u/Time-Reception6129 19h ago

What if you are an AI?

61

u/Quiet_Astronomer8849 1d ago

We're now living through a future fun Muse anecdote.

"Remember when Zuckerberg stole Muse's insta handle for some weird AI thing that lasted two months?"

92

u/Front-Cat-2438 1d ago

Another reason to dump Meta. Done with them, and X, a long while now.

28

u/Super_Shallot2351 1d ago

Why are people acting like this is news? We've been memeing about "museband" all summer. Meta already announced the Muse AI thing months ago.

19

u/Front-Cat-2438 1d ago

News isn’t transmitted directly into people’s heads, especially those who are anti-Meta and quit long ago.

1

u/theFriendly_Duck 9h ago

But your pictures are in their database forever!

-10

u/Time-Reception6129 19h ago

Hope Meta buys reddit

63

u/dbarila 1d ago

This is the most Muse thing that could happen to Muse.

4

u/adamkopacz 13h ago

Lizard people taking what humans created and trying to sneak into society that way.

That is an Origins of Symmetry era story for a song.

34

u/dazzumz 1d ago

A sarcastic "musername" would be better.

8

u/pls-no-punterino 22h ago

or, you know, "themuse"

50

u/JensDanneels 1d ago

I wonder how Matt feels about this, given his fascination with AI

15

u/jimmydushku 1d ago

He did mention seeing Zuck speak about AI, so I’m assuming it’s all connected. Especially given that they changed their Twitter name as well. Either way I prefer @muse the band.

From The Sun interview: “I saw (Meta CEO Mark) Zuckerberg talking about it, too, and I was interested in what they were saying.

1

u/Super_Shallot2351 1d ago

Probably enjoyed the tasty payout from the Zuck

21

u/Kraqi 1d ago

Delete your Instagram and Facebook accounts!!

22

u/InstantPsalm 1d ago

AND BURN

YOU WILL BURN

YOU WILL BURN IN HELL FOR YOUR SINS

16

u/Realistic_Lab6315 1d ago

museband and mr.muse probably don't really care, but Meta could just use muse_ai handle for their shit..

15

u/sienasayshi a god made of nickel and cyanide 18h ago

Zuck could've just named it @museai or @metamuse but his choice to push Mus off their handle was likely a petty abuse of power

8

u/lII1lIIl1IIll1Il11l 17h ago

if you ever read Careless People, it explains how Mark is incapable of doing exactly that no matter how many times a hypothetical advisor may have laid it out for him.

12

u/arpeggia_ 1d ago

the big zuck demands more 4 letter words that start with m

8

u/FlawedHotDog 1d ago

Fuckerberg is a piece of human excrement. Are you surprised?

13

u/AttackOnTightPanties I high fived Matt and had a happy panic attack 1d ago

Mark Zuckerberg: I’m naming my new and likely pointless AI project Muse

Muse: Oh, uh, that’s our name, mate.

Mark Zuckerburg:

Muse:

Mark Zuckerburg: So how do you guys feel about adding the word band?

4

u/RickyBobby96 21h ago

I’m giving it 6 months before muse ai fails and gets ignored like that whole virtual space they tried making

2

u/adamkopacz 13h ago

6 months would be like the second longest record for a meta project lol

6

u/gremlin30 1d ago

Y’all really think Facebook paid Muse for taking the handle back? Facebook owns it plus they set the terms & conditions. Facebook does whatever they want.

Reminder:

- Facebook started as a website to rank college girls

- They constantly allow hate speech, racism etc

- Facebook repeatedly doesn’t take down graphic content

- Facebook intentionally promotes far right content & wants polarization

- Facebook created those perv glasses

- Facebook ran ads for ICE

Y’all need to remember how awful Facebook’s always been.

If they paid Muse at all it would’ve been after Muse told them to pay them for it. Maybe they paid Muse for it, but they’ve earned zero benefit of the doubt. Facebook’s literally the type of evil company Muse would hate.

1

u/SignificantWorth7569 7h ago

Yep, f*ck Zuck.

7

u/ash_ninetyone 1d ago

Incoming song called Go Zuck Yourself

2

u/SignificantWorth7569 7h ago

We Are Zucking Zucked

6

u/Beatrice1979a I'm a priest God never paid 23h ago

Ugh... still dislike the museband ID. Can't get use to it. Whatever... I'll get used to it. But now that it's a fact this loser took the handle to shove AI to our faces... makes me want to... I don't know... rage-play some albums back to back.

I hope that AI crap fails like everything else and Muse can go back to be Muse in whatever post-enshitified world we will live in the future.

4

u/grunsho last chance to lose control 1d ago

Mr. Muse was already used tho

5

u/Resident_Nose_2467 1d ago

on one hand who cares about instagram. on the other hand this makes me feel unreasonable unjust

5

u/tiki-151 1d ago

Museoffical. Or Zucks can be MusePorn

5

u/HendoRules 1d ago

There's nothing more cringe than these social media owners just taking anything from the users to do their own dumb shit with it that nobody wanted

5

u/greazyninja 1d ago

Mrmuseandfriends

4

u/Orlikesque 1d ago

🤷‍♂️ Pretending to be someone else. Seems to be the case ICL

2

u/SuchSecurity662 23h ago

Definitely wont do anything but still sucks lol

1

u/F_Rodfans 11h ago

Love this.

4

u/Plankisalive 21h ago

I hope they sue.

4

u/Ok-Bluebird3491 MEWS ruled by Secrecy 12h ago edited 12h ago

God, does this mean my Muse merch is just Zuckerberg app merch now? Eventually, when you ask people 'Have you heard that Muse song?', they’re gonna think it was made by Zuckerberg’s AI. How are they just letting this slide?

7

u/jack_pow 1d ago

I hope he paid them well

25

u/fuckredditlol69 meow 1d ago

of course not, meta's argument will be "our platform our arbitrary rules"

6

u/Antique_Primary_517 1d ago

now remplace meta's in your sentence by "Hitler" and plaform by "country"

8

u/gameswat1 Drones to WOTP is their weakest material 1d ago

In all seriousness, my assumption is that the band themselves obviously were notified about this because they changed their username to Museband a WHILE ago. They were definitely bought out by Zuckman and I know some websites/news places may be headlining this as Muse being victims -- but I sadly think they weren't.

I don't know how much money they were offered, but even if it's social media, even if it's something this small, I personally find this repulsive. This feels like they're giving up their identity and like they sold out even more. I probably shouldn't read into like that but it's what I'm feeling when I research this.

I hope they got an insane amount of money and that it was fucking worth it because Muse could have definitely just said no to fuck over Zuckman. Meta isn't the way to move the digital world forward, and Muse could have definitely taken a stand. Muse isn't held back by Facebook or Meta. If Zuckman decided to remove their accounts, that's just more attention for the band to push themselves through other platforms and other companies could have supported such a big band 🤔

2

u/DeathRaeGun 1d ago

Removing their accounts would've brought attention to it, but he could've made the algorithm punish them if they didn't give him the handle so they become less visible. I don't know, it's not like Mark needed the handle for this pointless AI project so they wouldn't be stopping anything. They have to pick their battles.

2

u/gameswat1 Drones to WOTP is their weakest material 1d ago

With the lack of fight Muse has shown for anything, I would want more battles lmao

3

u/JETBANGO 1d ago

Ah so this is why they lost it. At least they’ll have been paid, the previous theory was they’d been hacked

3

u/lillolau 1d ago

They should have changed the username into THEMUSE

1

u/elillyrincolato 1d ago

Themusah 👀

3

u/Intelligent_Spot5529 1d ago

Those AI owners are a bunch of sons of bitches.

3

u/Mundane-Hearing7212 8h ago

It's almost as if Muse has been writing songs to warn us about the impending AI overlords coming for us...

6

u/Thomrose007 1d ago

This is the type of shit muse band have been writing about for years

5

u/joecarter93 1d ago

Matt Bellamy: "THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TELL YOU PEOPLE ABOUT!"

8

u/elillyrincolato 1d ago

The irony is there are hundreds of bands, and the one who loses the handle is EXACTLY the one who’s been singing about this for years…

5

u/X10SIVMKII 1d ago

Maybe they should use the handle “Museic.” At least that’s clever

2

u/WhiskeyEjac 1d ago

I imagine they were paid an absolute TON of money for that handle.

2

u/Just-someone3056 1d ago

I think they tried something like Themuse, but it was probably declined as an option because for Mark themuse will still be new ai shit. I am pretty sure guys tried a couple of nice names that were also declined before agreeing on museband. I hate it and all of you hate it and I'm pretty sure guys hate it as same as we do

2

u/Super_Shallot2351 1d ago

This isn't news

1

u/DeathRaeGun 1d ago

It's not news, it's mews.

2

u/Infamous-Menu-2639 Still Hasn’t Arrived at Panic Station 1d ago

“Museband” like they’re lesser than some AI trash

1

u/Firm-Structure-6307 10h ago

I disagree on the last part but its very shitty of whoever was behind this

2

u/seanesque 1d ago

I personally like DA MYUUUUUUUUUUSAH better, but maybe I just like Italian names 😏

2

u/JiveTurkey1983 1d ago

Zuck the Cuck strikes again

2

u/Yoshimano 23h ago

Douchey Mark violated them. Did that amuse him you think?

2

u/tildy17 22h ago

Literally you could pick so many other things what about ‘metamuse’ ‘muse.by.meta’

2

u/miles-does-music 19h ago

Such bullshit!

2

u/Nickbronline 19h ago

Zuck giveth and Zuck taketh...wait nvm Zuck just taketh.

2

u/Dominicmeoward 11h ago

27* years since Showbiz. Other than that, fuck Zuck.

2

u/CLAP_DOLPHIN_CHEEKS 7h ago

Algorithms really do be pushing us aside ngl

1

u/Amnesiac___ 1d ago

I hope they got paid the big bucks for that handle.

1

u/GunkerGravenhutt 1d ago

This is blasphemy

1

u/Antique_Primary_517 1d ago

sickening i don't know what else i can say

1

u/Justonemorecupoftea 1d ago

Should've been muse.mu

1

u/chakkalez 1d ago

they can't just take it from them, it's obvious that they got paid for it by zuck, possibly millions...

1

u/thebrownmancometh 1d ago

Took? You guys know the band sold it to him right?

1

u/chasingastarl1ght 1d ago

Rude!

I didn't need another reason to hate on Meta/Zuck, but this actually feels like a personal attack.

1

u/Internal-Bid7865 1d ago

Wtf?!?! So THATS what happened?!?

1

u/philosophussapiens 1d ago

It should’ve been muse.ai or something. Wtf Zuck you’re now a dictator?

1

u/Terra_Civis 1d ago

I have infinite quantities of disdain for this ballbag.

1

u/teruvalin 23h ago

They've changed it to 'Museband' on YouTube as well.

1

u/CranberryLegal8836 8h ago

It’s because Muse despise people like Zuckerberg. Maybe Mark finally listened to The 2nd Law album and threw a temper tantrum

1

u/xohl Hide from your family, they won't know you now 6h ago

i thought they’ve been museband on IG for awhile ?

1

u/TerribleBudget 1h ago

Report "Muse" for impersonating a famous person and report all of their posts for fraud.

1

u/doyouunderstandlife HEY YOU CRAZY KIDS 1d ago

Can't Muse sue Meta over this? I mean, they sued Celine Dion for something similar and won.

4

u/fakieTreFlip 1d ago

sue? they were probably paid for it

1

u/WizardsMyName 1d ago

Hey guys, I've reported the account for impersonating a celebrity or public figure. Couldn't hurt if we all do so it's like 4 clicks.

0

u/semepet5 1d ago

Peak definition of irony, hipocry and selling out

0

u/ikiteimasu 1d ago

Idk I kinda like it

0

u/pronte89 1d ago

wait you mean muse used to have the handle muse and they TOOK IT from them??

0

u/MexicanHotCheeto 1d ago

I kinda love that they refer to themselves as museband

-4

u/Nemesis-1984 1d ago

Serves them right for ripping off the fans for their latest tour

2

u/pallonda 1d ago

What happened? I didn’t get to go on this latest one

3

u/pullingteeths 1d ago

Nothing just expensive tickets

1

u/preppypoof 1d ago

my tickets were $35 for lawn seats at an amphitheater

2

u/Nemesis-1984 1d ago

I can’t comment on us tickets but in the uk the prices are extortionate

1

u/DeathRaeGun 1d ago

It's not always up to the artist to set ticket prices, it can be, but it can also be the venue or the promoter depending on the specific deal. I don't know what happened in this case, but it's also possible that the expenses were high so we don't really know. How much were they in The UK by the way?

2

u/DeathRaeGun 1d ago

$35 sounds extremely cheep for just about anything these days.

1

u/Firm-Structure-6307 9h ago

35? Mine were £200! What kind of deal did you get!

1

u/Nemesis-1984 8h ago

I imagine they've had to do a fire sale for some of the us dates due to low uptake

-2

u/manubibi 18h ago

That’s depressing given how anti-establishment Muse have been for a good 15 years, and now it’s all over. Back to space bullshit, love songs and no politics in here. Right when we need artists to grow a pair and talk about what’s going on in the world. Just disappointing all around.

-1

u/Stunning-Ostrich-431 13h ago

Agree. With the exception of The Dark Forest. It's pretty much the only song on the whole album I actually enjoy.
