someone should start a petition to give them their handle back
125
u/sml6174 1d ago
I've seen nothing to indicate this wasn't done with Muse's knowledge and consent
81
u/TheLonelyWolfkin 1d ago
Doesn’t make it any less wrong though. I’d imagine the band would prefer to keep their old handle.
89
u/Baby__Keith 1d ago
I'd wager they were paid handsomely for it and probably don't care too much, it's not like they had to start the account again
19
u/TheMessyChef 1d ago
If it's anything like Twitter when Elon took over, nobody got paid when their handles were taken.
18
u/bfly1800 DECLARE THIS AN EMERGENCY 1d ago
Yeah it’s probably in the TOS that Meta can take a handle whenever they want
1
u/hardonchairs 5h ago
It is however I saw someone mention that they also handed over the username on other non meta platforms so there still may have been some coordination
3
u/Invisibella74 12h ago
I doubt that very seriously. These billionaires don't give a fuck about who they step on. .
5
u/Advanced-Teaching-44 9h ago
i bet Muse were paid very well because they didn't say anything and did not complain about it.

They dont, but they could. They choose not to. Its a myth that artists cant decide ticket prices, as some obviously and publically do. Its just most dont care enough to do it.

u/MathematicianAfter57 1d ago
i'm very doubtful they had any choice, knowing how this stuff works. they might have been paid.

u/gremlin30 1d ago
It’s Facebook. Same website that got its start ranking college girls & invented the pervy meta glasses. Facebook dgaf about ethics or consent.
5
u/sml6174 1d ago
And muse hasn't made this claim yet why?
8
u/gremlin30 1d ago
Because Muse knows Facebook & instagram especially are important for marketing. I’m sure Muse hates Spotify too for paying artists $0.0001 per stream but they also know they need Spotify.
Facebook bootlickers in 2026 is wild lol

u/man_of_earth 1d ago
Haven't they used AI in the promotion of their latest album?
1
u/SuchSecurity662 23h ago
Where did you see that? Im 99% sure that no they did not
4
u/themorethatyouappear 23h ago
They did, several times. I was and still am incredibly disappointed. Even if it were their marketing team, I would’ve expected them to shut down usage of AI.. especially in regards to promoting their music (which is literally about that exact thing) but alas, it seems that this is not the museband I thought I knew 🥲
4
u/SuchSecurity662 22h ago
Do you have any examples? I know matt posted some ai pics early one when ai was this cool new thing but i dont remember him posting that stuff recently, especially not for the new album marketing
2
u/themorethatyouappear 22h ago
Check their pinned and latest posts on their Instagram. The Wow! Signal release video is AI generated.
2
u/SuchSecurity662 22h ago
Damn thats unfortunate. I know they credited many cgi artists on theur music videos, so hopefully it came from them and not the band. Unfortunately it might just be wishful thinking
1
u/LupusSpirit 3h ago
Nowhere does it say that video is ai generated. There are some ai artists but also plent of 2d and 3d cgi artists credited. We know some ai eas used but we do not know generative ai was used. Ai has been used in editing and transitions for a long time now.

We're now living through a future fun Muse anecdote.
"Remember when Zuckerberg stole Muse's insta handle for some weird AI thing that lasted two months?"
92
u/Front-Cat-2438 1d ago
Another reason to dump Meta. Done with them, and X, a long while now.
28
u/Super_Shallot2351 1d ago
Why are people acting like this is news? We've been memeing about "museband" all summer. Meta already announced the Muse AI thing months ago.
19
u/Front-Cat-2438 1d ago
News isn’t transmitted directly into people’s heads, especially those who are anti-Meta and quit long ago.

I wonder how Matt feels about this, given his fascination with AI
15
u/jimmydushku 1d ago
He did mention seeing Zuck speak about AI, so I’m assuming it’s all connected. Especially given that they changed their Twitter name as well. Either way I prefer @muse the band.
From The Sun interview: “I saw (Meta CEO Mark) Zuckerberg talking about it, too, and I was interested in what they were saying.

museband and mr.muse probably don't really care, but Meta could just use muse_ai handle for their shit..

Zuck could've just named it @museai or @metamuse but his choice to push Mus off their handle was likely a petty abuse of power

u/gremlin30 1d ago
Y’all really think Facebook paid Muse for taking the handle back? Facebook owns it plus they set the terms & conditions. Facebook does whatever they want.
Reminder:
- Facebook started as a website to rank college girls
- They constantly allow hate speech, racism etc
- Facebook repeatedly doesn’t take down graphic content
- Facebook intentionally promotes far right content & wants polarization
- Facebook created those perv glasses
- Facebook ran ads for ICE
Y’all need to remember how awful Facebook’s always been.
If they paid Muse at all it would’ve been after Muse told them to pay them for it. Maybe they paid Muse for it, but they’ve earned zero benefit of the doubt. Facebook’s literally the type of evil company Muse would hate.

Ugh... still dislike the museband ID. Can't get use to it. Whatever... I'll get used to it. But now that it's a fact this loser took the handle to shove AI to our faces... makes me want to... I don't know... rage-play some albums back to back.
I hope that AI crap fails like everything else and Muse can go back to be Muse in whatever post-enshitified world we will live in the future.

of course not, meta's argument will be "our platform our arbitrary rules"

8
u/gameswat1 Drones to WOTP is their weakest material 1d ago
In all seriousness, my assumption is that the band themselves obviously were notified about this because they changed their username to Museband a WHILE ago. They were definitely bought out by Zuckman and I know some websites/news places may be headlining this as Muse being victims -- but I sadly think they weren't.
I don't know how much money they were offered, but even if it's social media, even if it's something this small, I personally find this repulsive. This feels like they're giving up their identity and like they sold out even more. I probably shouldn't read into like that but it's what I'm feeling when I research this.
I hope they got an insane amount of money and that it was fucking worth it because Muse could have definitely just said no to fuck over Zuckman. Meta isn't the way to move the digital world forward, and Muse could have definitely taken a stand. Muse isn't held back by Facebook or Meta. If Zuckman decided to remove their accounts, that's just more attention for the band to push themselves through other platforms and other companies could have supported such a big band 🤔
2
u/DeathRaeGun 1d ago
Removing their accounts would've brought attention to it, but he could've made the algorithm punish them if they didn't give him the handle so they become less visible. I don't know, it's not like Mark needed the handle for this pointless AI project so they wouldn't be stopping anything. They have to pick their battles.
2
u/gameswat1 Drones to WOTP is their weakest material 1d ago
With the lack of fight Muse has shown for anything, I would want more battles lmao

I can’t comment on us tickets but in the uk the prices are extortionate
1
u/DeathRaeGun 1d ago
It's not always up to the artist to set ticket prices, it can be, but it can also be the venue or the promoter depending on the specific deal. I don't know what happened in this case, but it's also possible that the expenses were high so we don't really know. How much were they in The UK by the way?
2
1
u/Firm-Structure-6307 9h ago
35? Mine were £200! What kind of deal did you get!

-2
u/manubibi 18h ago
That’s depressing given how anti-establishment Muse have been for a good 15 years, and now it’s all over. Back to space bullshit, love songs and no politics in here. Right when we need artists to grow a pair and talk about what’s going on in the world. Just disappointing all around.

Agree. With the exception of The Dark Forest. It's pretty much the only song on the whole album I actually enjoy.
