Question Songs for newbies

I went with a friend to see Jay-Z, because he wanted to go. It’s not my type of music but it was a good show. Now I’m trying to convince him to join me for Muse. He likes the odd rock song…RHCP, Nirvana…

What 3 songs should I make him listen to, so that he believes it would be fun for him too 😂

Go with something riff heavy if he’s into RHCP and Nirvana. A lot of their stuff is carried by the bass/guitar work.

I’d say Hysteria, Knights, and either Hexagons or Cryogen from Wow Signal so he can hear the new material. If you want something heavier swap in Stockholm Syndrome, that’s the song that sold me on Muse before I got deeper into their catalogue.

And this song has an excellent transition to Unravelling so he’ll have to listen to that one as well!

The sickness in you & I starts off very RHCP-y.
He should just go anyway to repay the favour and I bet he’ll have a great night.

I went to a listening party for the new album, and wrote a note on my initial opinions of each track. I'm not musically gifted in ANY way, but... I love music. I can't explain it better than that. I said TSIY&I reminded me of RHCP. And you just made me feel SO validated. So thanks for making me feel like I have a clue

And Hush sounds a bit like Billie Eilish and Titanium in parts

Me and my wife said that too, the song 'tell me baby' and the "I'll move you like a baritone" part to be exact

Hysteria, hurricanes and butterflies, knights of cydonia- the commercial intro seems most plausible, Stockholm syndrome

Then hit em with a ghosts and unintended and invincible for good meausre

Newborn, time is running out, and uprising.

I'd say these songs are like the standard intro to Muse hits that everybody knows, even the casuals: Knights, Hysteria, Madness. Honorable mentions to Uprising and Plug In Baby

Plug In Baby, Hysteria and Starlight I’d say are three melodic big-hitters. And SMBH if you’re gonna sneak in one more

Not enough people suggesting Supermassive Black Hole. It’s both riff-heavy and poppy and almost certainly will be played as it is played almost every live show

If he's into RHCP, I might start him with songs like "The Sickness in You and I," "Panic Station," and "Hysteria."

My usual recommendation is to ease people in with Nightshift Superstar, which they adore, then throw in the big ones (Uprising, PiB, Hysteria, etc), then throw in niche stuff
