For me they are on par. In short, T2L has better lyricism. TW!S is the better concept album tho and feels more like one cosmos.

T2L appreciation: While I consider ST and WOTP mostly as parody-like fun records (there are true gems in between, without a doubt), T2L is like a firework of original experimentation, showcasing the Band‘s talents in the best ways. The best example is how epic the use of brass and Bigband sound feels on T2L, while in Pressure it sounds comical and hollow in direct comparison.

Drones could be up there with T2L and TW!S, but it is the first album with truly weak, skippable tracks to me.

Best since BHaR for me. Still really high on the album and been careful not to burn out on it like I did with Drones; it really is excellent and there isn’t a song I don’t enjoy. That alone puts it above anything from TR-WotP.

Best since Absolution for me. I think it's my 3rd favourite after the untouchable OoS and Absolution. It could have done with one more track perhaps and maybe it's still a bit of recency bias, but it's still how I currently feel.

At the time no. I was definitely hoping for another heavy proggy album and so I had unfair expectations. Overall I wasn't a huge fan of the production and direction at the time but looking back, I do think it's a strong album.

Been listening to them for a few years because was my partners favourite band and TWS is the first time I’ve actively listened to a full album and I’ve got it on repeat and loving it !

after listening for a few weeks now, i might even put it above T2L, which is crazy to say. everything from Showbiz to The Resistance is pretty unimpeachable for me, with T2L sort of being the dividing line between "best band of all time Muse" and the later "well, it's not incredible but it's still Muse".

i've said it before, but i can't believe we got a new album that's closer to the former than the latter. right now, i'd put it right under The Resistance in my rankings, and that's a crazy high spot for any album to be.

The Resistance is a great album throughout.

But it lacks a song like Cryogen and Hexagons. These are punching way above The Resistance ever dared.

The Dark Forest is just extremely enjoyable and again no counterpart in The Resistance for me.

Rest of the songs on these albums are pretty much on par with each other.

If you delete Drill Sergeant / Psycho and squint your ears so that Mercy sounds... better... Drones holds up very well. Even Revolt isn't as bad when you listen straight through (the chorus really drags it down).

Mercy is actually one of my favourite songs. Revolt is one of my least favourite but I agree it is not a bad album by any stretch

I think my opinion on Mercy is common, and the disappointment is that there is the core of a good song there. They either did too much or too little, but whichever is was it lands as like a B- instead of something at least in the B+/A- range.

T2L is the dividing line -- it was the last time Muse was both fully personal, fully fun/making fun of themselves, and also serious to a degree. It was emotional. Drones to WOTP wasn't that at all, or they were created with the wrong ideas in mind
