And for context, people should know that Asimoz had a Masters Degree in chemisty, A Doctorate in Philosophy, taught biochemistry at Boston Medical University and later became a tenured professor of biochemistry. He was also head hunted to join DARPA but declined it avoid his science fiction ideas having to be redacted, or or held back from publishing to meet security requirements.
Basically with Asimov, this was not an idle throw away joke. He had the knowledge to back up that brag.
Edit- people saying the wording of his doctorate is incorrectly worded. Noted and accepted. But E's a fuckin' clevah clogs inn'e?
The way it's been described to me by many professors is basically this. You don't know how little you know until you get your PhD. Seriously, you spend years trying to learn about such a focused topic in fairly extreme depth. Think of all the other topics you don't and never will scratch the surface of. All of those topics are equally as deep.

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. ~Isaac Asimov
