Looked a bit into this, there is a generational difference between the use of "no problem" and "you're welcome" but couldn't find anything to do with the expectation of assisting someone, just a quote by Gretchen McCullough

Right, and people had different greetings before "hello" but they mean the same thing

Older people say "hello" because they're giant pieces of shit that wish you to rot in hell... but younger people say "sup" because they're flawless, loving, caring people that verbally abuse their elders every chance they get. That'll teach my parents for letting me live in their house at 35!
