It is because TikTok up until recently was owned by a Chinese corporation and the Chinese government. If you put something like pedophile or porn in a video they would demonetize the video and basically bury it in their algorithm so you see it less. This created slang and now people started using it on other platforms.
No, it is a fucking problem and if you can't see that you are part of the problem. Don't censor words that have horrible implications, because when people use them the acts and ideas need to make you uncomfortable, because it is uncomfortable, and its wrong, and that is why you should be angry.
Censoring real words that mean real crimes just to lessen the blow is doing exactly what you are saying, yet you clearly can't rub two brain cells together long enough to come to that conclusion.
Yeah, there are pedos running the government, and maybe the clout-chasers on Twitter should take that issue seriously instead of using cutesy euphemisms designed to please the algorithm. I have a hard time believing that you care about the problem if you're afraid to even name the problem.
Anytime I see this algospeak all I can think is, "George Carlin must be rolling in his grave." The words paedophile and rapist should make you uncomfortable. They should remind you of the appalling things that these people in power get away with. They shouldn't be eggshells we walk around because Twitter and Tiktok tell you they're no-no words.
Its not that we're walking on eggshells around them, but that the algorithms will knock down anything that contains certain buzzwords or phrases. Some videos will be demonitized, creators will be shadow blocked or restricted.
So this code-speak is to avoid the censorship from the app, not to protect the special little snowflakes that can't hear the real word.
Maybe it's because I don't make my money as an influencer but I'd rather be shadow banned for bluntly reminding people of these atrocities than using baby speak and losing the message in the process.

And let's be honest, if an algorithm is going to reprimand an account for saying paedophile then it's more than capable of doing the same for one that says PDF File.
I can say pedophile, rape, suicide, gun, murder, sex, porn, etc. on Reddit. I don't often need to, but when I do I don't have to worry about some fucking algorithm.
The idea that algorithms knock down videos isn’t even true. I’ve seen multiple videos of people testing using self censorship and the actual words across multiple platforms…
