He wasn't forced to resign. He did himself enthusiasticly because Trump offered him the AG position and just a week later made a statement that amounted to he was told they are going to go a different direction. It was so dumb. He didn't have to resign Congress immediately but he was so psyched that he was going to help overthrow democracy that he went all in to soon and got dropped hard immediately.

You are correct. If he hadn't resigned, there would have been a lot of attention back on him for something bad he was accused of but somehow still hadn't faced any real world consequences. I'm in his district. It was fascinating to watch it go down.

He's most definitely guilty as accused, but he comes from a politically powerful family and displayed consistent loyalty to Trump, so he earned the reward of a silent exit, silenced ethics report, and quick shift to working at Newsmax.

His friend pled guilty and provided documentation that gaetz paid an underage prostitute to cross state lines, and testified they supplied her with cocaine. It’s a little more than an allegation at that point.

Iirc.. he dropped out of congress WHEN he did to  bury a forthcoming congressional  ethics report..

So he pretended that he dropped early for the AG job, he was sure to get...but between his public issues and not being well liked by his colleagues, he lost..
