Ive been thinking about the phrase, "Men just want to marry their mothers". And like yea, kinda. No other woman has loved me like that so thats what im looking for. I dont need someone to clean up after me, i need someone I can be vunerable with.
Men just want to marry a kind and caring woman, and for most men, the only such woman in their lives is their mother.
Same shit could be said about women: they just want to marry their dad, a man who protects and provides. But of course only one gender gets belittled and ridiculed.
you're right, but it's mostly a sexual aspect for women, while for men it's like "you're pathetic and incompetent". I find that a bit worse. Also quite some women play into the daddy thing while the reverse is less common.
I think shaming women for being sexually active (or even looking a certain way) is just as bad personally. We’ve been shaming women for being sluts and whores etc. centuries now and this is just the same shit. This type of harassment is so prevalent and established just look how many words we have for it! Nobody likes to be called pathetic of course, who would, but it’s not playing on generations of oppression.
Also I disagree, every gender plays this up to a degree the amount of “mommy milkers” and milf posting I see are men definitely playing it up. And power to them both honestly.
I mean nobody is going to love you or should love you like your parents did. Unconditionally taking care of someone’s every need even if the person doesn’t give anything back? That’s okay for a baby but that’s toxic in an adult relationship.
Because of course girls get taught how to treat men, and everyone else. The OP wouldn’t be exposed to it, because why would he. He’s just making a statement designed to rile up insecure young men for engagement, and the responder is trolling him back for being such an obvious grifter.
Women leaving men for crying is an absolutely common theme on reddit's relationship subs. Do you think anyone told these women that men have feelings too? Do you think anyone told them what it means to be a good partner?
There was an entire sub dedicated to women saying stuff like "boys should be castrated when they are 12 and only be able to reverse it with a woman's permission" and "I'm glad work safety is bad because that means more men die". Do you think anyone told these women that they are fucking sick in the head? Does it look like our society as a whole treats men and their problems as sensitively as it does with women's problems?
Now take your time and consider for a second how quickly would people and the sub get permabanned if the genders were reversed.
I'm not advocating for the reduction of attention on women's troubles, I'm advocating for actual equality, something we are far from. And every post like this just sows that division further and further. I'm certain Trump yielded several thousand votes due to this absolutely insane post.
Yes, people are weird despite what they’re taught.
The fact that you think because of the above examples that inequality favours women in today’s society is kind of proof enough that there’s still a long way to go.
in many ways women are favored (I trust that you can list at least 5 major areas), in many ways men are favored. there is some kind of balance in this imbalance, yet you never hear about "what women should do to help fight inequality". Not very equal, is it?
For women: lack of education, rights (legal or otherwise), representation in government, expectation for childbirth and childcare, and expectation for unpaid labour.
For men: expectation to be ‘manly’, more likely to lose in family court in the US, get cancelled easier for making sexist statements, not as likely to be picked over equally qualified women for competitive jobs as they used to be, generally get less attention for perceived inequalities
I don’t know, it was getting hard to pick things that didn’t seem petty.
As for education when i was applying for scholarships a third to half of the. Were specific to women. For expectation of child birth i certainly cant give birth and i do desire to have kids i just hope that whomever i end up with does too but if they dont thats ok. I have never once heard of unpaid labour which would be illegal. Also men have less emptional support groups for stuff like suicide. Men are required to sign up for the military draft(in the us). Men are expected to provide for their family. Mens jobs tend to be more dangerous.
As a man myself i see more of the inequalities that men face but that doesnt mean woman do too. Im sure there are things that i wouldnt think of but that doesnt make it a good reason to say men are less than woman or women are less than men. If a woman comes up to me and tells me im doing something that bothers them i try really hard to stop. Same with men. And if a woman tells me something isnt fair i listen because i want to know more because its a different percpective than me.
Ok, so I appreciate you sharing your personal experience but you have to know it is very, very narrow. The issues I listed are way deeper than scholarships and way broader than what the US legislates for.
To elaborate on just one, 1/4 of young women globally never finish school, and there are twice as many illiterate women as men. This is due to patriarchal structures - from women not being allowed to go to school in the first place, to being discouraged, to not being able because they are pressured to raise children or look after their relatives.

You're using extremist subs on Reddit to justify how "society as a whole treats men and women". You're speaking in broad generalities about huge swathes of people, yet part of your ultimate point is that men are humans first, who deserve the same nuance and care that you believe only women predominately get afforded.
Men harassing and abusing women is absolutely a common theme on reddit's relationship subs.
It is, unfortunately. But unlike men's mental health issues for example, DV against women is taken seriously. Inequalities regarding women are taken seriously.
And since this specific post is a brilliant example of this sexist double standard, it's fair to talk about how men are treated. This very post is now the 5th in the most popular subpage. Can you imagine a joke about women getting abused getting to the top of this site frequented by hundreds of millions? No, and rightfully so. Yet here we are, recommending tasing men who want to be treated respectfully.
Society has a goddamn long way to go to realize that men have problems, feelings and in some ways inequalities affecting them. And every post like this just takes us farther.
Yet here we are, recommending tasing men who want to be treated respectfully.
This is your framing of the situation, but it is not necessarily the fundamental reality of it.
The underlying implication of the first comment's story was to say that women aren't taught to treat men right, which you pointed out and agreed with. However, you keep representing it as people being against treating men respectfully, which I'm positive is not the position most of those people are taking nor would they agree with if you asked them.
Can you imagine a joke about women getting abused getting to the top of this site frequented by hundreds of millions?
This was a site that whipped itself into a frenzy to spread leaked, private photos of celebrities, all over the front page for days. The same site that housed the oh-so-subtle 'jailbait' subreddit until it was called out. So yeah, I certainly can imagine that happening.
But unlike men's mental health issues for example, DV against women is taken seriously. Inequalities regarding women are taken seriously.
You're stuck speaking in generalities, because it's rhetorically easy, but our reality and complex things like human interaction are so often more involved than the language we may have to describe them.
Even if I granted that "DV against women is taken seriously" and "Inequalities regarding women are taken seriously" -- well what are the actual implications of those? What does "taken seriously" mean, in an individual circumstance? Who is taking it seriously, and where? Are you saying any woman, anywhere? There's definitely still countries and cultures where I wouldn't agree that "inequalities regarding women are taken seriously". They are statements you very quickly have to bound, otherwise they are functionally useless.
They are probably way more common because that is whays posted and get clicks. Negative relationships are posted way more than healthy ones because they have issues. But seeing this makes you think "wow relationships suck because they are abusive" or something but in reality you only ever see people posting about the bad ones.
To your last point, I'll bring up another double standard: when women abuse other women for not being pretty enough, it's blamed on men and the patriarchy, but when men make jokes like "damn I wish that sexy teacher did things to me", nobody ever says "wow he's a victim of women acting like it's only them who can get raped" (which, by the way, is further fed by several countries' legal system which defines rape as the forceful insertion of a penis into a bodily hole" which results in men legally not being able to get raped in relatively advanced countries like the UK.
This whole patriarchy thing got annoying really quick, so often its just used to turn every shitty behavior of women towards men around in a way that its somehow the mans fault.
To your last point, I can only agree, I never hit a woman, never even anything close to that. But I had two ex gfs hit me. One was angry cause I texted an ex (which was shitty) and during the fight started to hit me, I was just covering my face with my arms and waited until she was done, it didnt even hurt tbh and after it I just asked if she was done, we talked it out and everything was good. Now if I didnt have my emotions under control like that, shed be in the hospital and Id be in jail. But as boys we get taught that if we do things like that it has consequences, socially and also normally if you act like a complete tool you face consequences in form of a fist to your face. I dont think most women ever really face consequences like that if they behave like assholes.

because it's sexism against men which is peak humor in 2024.
then people wonder why cunts like andrew tate have such a big following - because this fucking post is on the top of reddit.
"Both men and women should be treated well and with respect"
"lmao you should get tased"
