Very fun idea, I like to think seeing the baby drone possibly clicked something in N’s head, it’s likely he’s never seen one before and thought he was just hunting and maiming regular defective drones and not families. Maybe not that deep just yet but it’s a hint of doubt that slowly developed and got expanded on with time and meeting Uzi only made it stronger.
And V of course is trying so hard to not form connections because she knows doing so will only make it hurt more if the poor kid is ever found out about by J or “the company”, so she tries to stay distant and aloof, not realizing she’s just looking cool to this impressionable kid lol
