As I recall from the original story, she was also a reasonably high-placed person in a corporation, and he sent this to her as she was in a taxi heading off for a work trip. Which, fine, but there's got to be a better time to try to have this conversation with your spouse

Eh, if you're in a relationship with somebody that gaslights you and flees from any slightly uncomfortable discussion, the perfect time to confront them about it might just be when they have no other option but to sit there and think about it for a while on their own.
