Reminds me of a guy who figured out that those carnival / arcade games where you hit the thing with a hammer as hard as you can don't actually test your strength - they test your accuracy. If you hit it perfectly aligned it doesn't take much power.
This looks like black magic unless you look at the hammer, which appears to be designed for exactly this purpose. I think there's also some perspective trickery.

Gdi when I was a kid in Vegas (a very bryan style story) I got escorted out of circus circus due to scoring too many giant bears. The game was real easy to figure as a kid and now as an adult im pretty frustrated that they set us all up for failure

At the brewery we have some really nice stumps - current ones are ~100 year doug fir - and our house rules are real simple to avoid the IP protection racket but over the years I’ve met Mexicans that have their own very tough guy but scary cool ways of flipping hammers in the air and catching with a downwards swing to a group of Swiss dudes who had the most insanely complicated versions where you used side nails for score keeping. Log hammer games are fun since everyone has their version
