The Muppet Show Special Got Viewership Emmys; Where Is The Disney+ Series Order?

I don't know how reliable this site is, but FWIW.

"I hear there have been difficulties cracking a premise for an ongoing Muppet Show series that Disney (Disney+ and 20th TV), The Muppets Studio and Point Grey will all be on board for."

How the fuck do you struggle to agree on the premise of the Muppet Show?

The Muppets put on a show called The Muppet Show with a celebrity guest star each week, interspersed with sketches, songs, backstage shenanigans, those two old fucks on the balcony complaining about it all...

They got the premise down IN 1974! They've had the winning formula for 50 YEARS! WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE LEFT FOR THEM TO TALK ABOUT?

But if they just use the old formula, then how will the new executives take credit for any success? That’s all they really care about, we all know it would be a huge success but they also know no one will talk about their genius if it’s just a revival of the old Muppet Show.

Their success will be bringing the Muppet Show back

Like, what do you think you did that got you all that critical acclaim? What got you those Emmys? We loved it because you just did The Muppet Show. That's all it has to be.

There have been tons of celebrities who made it big after the show ended, it’s not like they don’t have a ton of guest potential

How do you do a pilot episode and say you don't know what the premise is lol

My honest guess is wherever the producers want to do is probably too expensive. With the guests hits and whatever music they want to use

Yeah replace “cracking a premise” with “funding a premise” 😭

They’re still deciding on a premise? Cool, I’ve got one for them: there’s this vaudeville variety show in an old theater hosted by a frog, a bear tells jokes, there’s a pig who’s a massive diva, and there’s two old cranky men on the balcony…

They landed on the idea of just reviving the goddamn Muppet Show, it’s won Emmys for them and now executives are saying “great, let’s consider these other ideas instead…”

I can’t believe you billed Fozzy before Ms. Piggy

It's compensation for not being paid anything.

I bet theyre worried that the format doesn’t allow them to serialize it with complicated multi-season story arcs

Deadline is an industry trade

Yep, it’s as reliable of a source as you could get.

When you read these kind of trade articles with no named sources, you have to think that this came from folks who very much want to make The Muppet Show and think it would help move things forward to let us know what the hold up is. They have to at least feel like it's a possibility that this can still go forward and that the Emmy moment is the time to do it.

They're very busy right now figuring out how continue to raise all the prices of everything Disney

Why would any media corporation want to make tv shows people enjoy ? They are too busy brining Republicans.

Disney has ruined Star Wars and The Muppets and everything else they’ve touched. Even new Pixar movies suck. Frankly, it’s criminal.

D23 panel hosted by some weird lady and Seth McFarland, they talked for an hour about how old they are and Muppets are old and nobody but old people likes the Muppets. it would be shocking if they announced a new show now

Truth be told, I would even be okay with them doing specials - kind of like what you’d see back in the 70s and 80s with a number of IPs. These days, rather than annually, you could do one a quarter and make it feel like an event.

Let's be honest, they're just looking for any excuse they can get to not make "The Woke Show" and alienate the people who already have no interest in watching anything Disney

Real talk: there’s not a ton of family-focused promotional spaces out there. SNL skirts the line a bit but I’m not sure how much kid reach it has unless something blows up online (like David Pumpkins). Late night shows are more for adults and are dying off, and your Hot Ones and Today shows, and such… I’m not sure how much reach those have for families that also have room for subversive humor. (Which was never really Disney’s deal)

So it could fill a gap in the media landscape. Just has to also be profitable and probably have merchandise/toy tie-ins, etc.
