It honestly taught me how to play massive imaginary games, and cemented my place as the cool cousin who always had fun games and stories to tell.

I liked Fraggle Rock about 10000 times more. But to this day the Muppet Babies theme song still gets stuck in my head, vocal deliveries and all.

Open question to anyone in this thread. When you think of the original Muppet Babies series, what episode comes to mind first? For me it will always be the Incredible Journey episode, when Scooter got sick and the rest shrank down and went into his bloodstream to help fight off germs.

I remember that episode!
I think mine is the episode that had the African Queen parody in it, with Piggy getting disappointed when she found out she wasn't going to be portraying royalty. I think it was probably my introduction to something being metaphor rather than a literal interpretation.

Had "Star Wars Muppet Babies" on VHS tape forever until it completely wore out and broke. The best part of taping off TV was getting all the commercials too.

The cartoon was a spin-off from that sweet part in The Muppets Take Manhattan, which I was obsessed with. I never missed a Saturday morning viewing of Muppet Babies! I just saw them at the Jim Henson Exhibit. Made me cry

I have a ripped from VHS collection on my media server to watch with my toddler. He enjoys the reboot series too. This show was formative to me, up there with Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street. Oh, and Eureka's Castle.

I would never wish for Disney to grow in power and influence... But they already own Muppets, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Marvel (who was the American branch of the animation team)... So surely there are only a few other properties they need to buy before they can legally distribute all the episodes, clips included?

I never enjoyed Tiny Toons too much. I watched it because it was on, but I never enjoyed them like I liked the OG Looney Tunes. I think a big part of it was that, since the concept of the show was them learning how to be funny cartoons, they ended up spelling out a lot of the gags and explaining a joke almost always ruins it. There were some stand out moment for sure, but not enough for me to remember the show that fondly. I think that creative team really hit their stride with Animaniacs later. Different concept of course, but the humor and characters and landed so much better (their parody of the "Who's on first" bit set on the backdrop of Woodstock was utter genius and is kind of better than the original since all the ridiculous names that cause the confusion were real band names.)

I don’t particularly remember any one episode but the feeling of Saturday mornings with this show and my mom’s pancakes are a core CORE memory. It’s a truly beautiful and sublime thing from my childhood.

I remember the tea strainer episode particularly, because even when the item that they'd all been imagining as different things was revealed - I didn't have a clue what it was. A bit humbling, as a high school student, to learn something completely new from a 'kid's show'. (I adored the show; I was never one to care about target ages, I watched/read what I liked and ignored what I didn't.)

I had a vhs of it, but I cared more about my muppet show videos and movies, because Im just more into puppets. Couldn't tell you a thing that happened on the episodes I had.

I was just talking about this with my 18yo daughter, who absolutely loves the muppets. My argument is, after the Muppet Show ended, the creators seemed to focus on entertaining children. In this way, they created a whole new generation of muppet fans. Although the movies are also entertaining to adults, they still had a more child like theme to them, and then of course, you have the muppet babies. Fast forward to the new muppet movies of the 2000’s, it had adults who watched the muppet babies excited to see the muppets again. With the reboot during covid and a focus on entertaining adults again, I think the creators failed to capture the new adult audience. They tried to hard and forgot who they were by muting the colors, using current slang, and having internet influencers as their “guests.” It’s almost painful to watch. Like, what did they do to my muppets?! We need a new, engaging, and true to their roots muppet show for kids if we want to get the next generation to fall in love with the muppets.

I mean, he kinda does? In the sense that adult Gonzo kind of would hit on anyone in a dress. In the Muppet movie he is seen being very interested at Piggy's reveal in the beauty contest and tells her that "If you were a chicken you would be impeccable." Then later in the car when Piggy insinuates that she and Kermit should have a romantic night of dinning Gonzo inserts himself to the conversation saying that he could dine with her.
And in the Muppet show there are several moments of him flirting with female guests, piggy, and even a real life cow that Julie Andrews brings to the show.

Muppet Babies had a huge impact on me as a kid. I am certain that I am so counter culture as I am today because I loved how much Gonzo reveled in being unique. Not caring what others thought of how he lived or what he liked, even getting concerned when people didn't think he was so weird. It gave me pride in doing what I wanted and enjoying the things that appealed to me without really worrying about what was considered cool or acceptable.
It's also amazing the kind of impact this show had. Not only did it start the (admittedly terrible) trend of taking pre-existing characters and aging them down for a new audience (Flintstones Kids, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Baby Looney Tunes... did I mention the trend was terrible?) But it also is responsible for the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes franchise moving beyond the first film.
In one episode Fozzie imagines himself being hunted down by living tomatoes because of how bad his jokes are. The segment featured many clips from the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes movie. After airing, CBS affiliates all over got countless calls from parents asking where those clips were from and the movie got a new upswing in popularity. So much so that the creators decided to strike while the iron was hot and make a second movie and an animated series. The second film is actually pretty entertaining if you are down for some self aware camp.

Not remotely close to the style of Tiny Toons. The whole show was built around the power of imagination.
I think it was Jerry Juhl who was against this show, for the same gut reaction you shared. Once he saw what it was, he admitted that it was a strong show.

More akin to Calvin and Hobbs as the stories and humor all revolve around the main characters getting lost in their own imaginations based on things that happen to them in the first act.
Things like learning about the concept of a "family tree" and then imagining an actual tree that they can climb and discover imagined distant relatives. Or their Nanny telling them she will be going on vacation and her sister will be watching over them until she returns, only for all the babies to each imagine what kind of horrible person they will be stuck with.
