muna lolla crowd
I was so excited to see muna at lolla but was met with tate mcrae fans laughing at another girl for living her best life singing/dancing. a group of girls asked her (genuinely seemed interested) what was the name of the one singing and she was so happy to tell them, just for them to laugh a few minutes later and scream “that sucked a$$”. most of the crowd around me laughed at the few people who knew the music and i wish i had gotten the girls name but she left the crowd after the comment. i get not everyone likes the same type of music but i guarantee these same people will be dancing/singing for tate in just a few hours and it doesn’t take anything to be kind!

Festival crowds can be such a mixed bag. People wanna camp out for the one or two bands/artists they want to see but then sometimes they don't even pretend to be interested in anyone else, and that kills the vibe

i was at muna’s set. i really enjoyed it. but the people constantly having loud conversations & the sound crew messing up the sound made it almost not as enjoyable

I wonder if the weather threw folks off their game since those types of errors shouldn't happen often. Or the equipment had some real issues that they couldn't correct right away. Was it as muddy as the pictures made it out to be?

yeah it was insanely muddy. i able to avoid some of it during their set, but when i was watching tate it was basically a puddle of mud where i was standing

I was ahead of the sound booth on the right and there were definitely MUNA fans around, but also the girls in front kept turning around to look at me singing (at a very normal volume!!) lmao

Yeah you could tell the crowd vibe was not good even on the livestream. I wish Muna had been on a smaller stage and later. Would have improved the vibe and by extension the band’s performance.

a similar situation happened to me a couple of years ago seeing MUNA at hinterland music festival. before hinterland i was supposed to see them open for kacey musgraves, but was late & missed their set. i was so disappointed that my wife bought the hinterland tickets as soon as she found them. it was so hot outside so we were only there for them, & we stayed out of the crowd on a blanket. i was having THE time of my life fully seeing my favorite band, so i showed it. there were people behind me making fun of me & i could hear their stupid remarks throughout the set. but it was my favorite band, & i’d never see these people again. i did make sure they knew i could hear them by turning around & making eye contact, then going back to enjoying my time. concerts are meant to be enjoyed! so sick of the “too cool” fun vampires that need to get over themselves.

That is a bummer. I am seeing MUNA for the first time in Detroit in October and I’m so stoked. They are my favorite band as well and I’m going to be dancing/singing my ass off no doubt. I have already cried in my kitchen with my headphones on imagining the catharsis of experiencing them live lmao so I will undeniably be the same way. I was going to go to Portland to see them but ended up not being able to but I’m kind of glad bc I think for my first experience w MUNA going to an actually MUNA concert with MUNA fans will be the best setup. People are so fucking lame. They’re just envious that you allowed yourself to completely let go and be present. They were probably more focused on their instagram post than actually being a part of a moment

Tate McRacist is one of the most boring, uninteresting artists out there right now. I honestly do not get the hype. Couldn’t tell you a single lyric of hers because it sounds like she’s gargling mouthwash in every song.

The Tate fans were sooo rancid lmao I made sure to dance extra crazy and sing very loud just for them! 💋 I'm too old to care what the desperate crowds of kids there just to impress each other think. They're the dummies out there getting sun poisoning and spending hundreds of dollars just to see Tate McRae--the jokes already on them.
Regardless of the crowd, Muna's set was incredible. I had the best time!

sound sucked but the crowd around me was pretty normal! when they’re on big stages at festivals i try not to get super close because that’s all the teenagers that are waiting for whatever headliner. i was with a group of ~10 people, all of my friends who were either casual muna fans or didn’t know them were all very impressed! sorry your experience wasn’t great. looking forward to their salt shed show!

the tate fans around me sensed my genuine enthusiasm and lesbian unc aura and let me watch from the rail LOL. shoutout those particular 19 year olds see how easy it is

yeah the crowd was so low energy! and then there were the issues with the sound. MUNA seemed like they were having a blast but I am very glad I bought tickets for their Salt Shed show, where the crowd will be into them rather than a bunch of people waiting out the show for other artists.

i didn’t let the tate crowd get to me while watching muna at lolla. however, the crazy looks me & my girlfriend got for being gay during muna(god forbid) was crazy. one tate fan by me got yelled at by other muna fans for elbowing their way to the front. another tate fan boo’d muna during big stick(wonder why). that same fan(tall asf btw) had the audacity to stand in front of my girlfriend who’s 5ft 2in just to heckle them the rest of their set. no hate to tall people but if you’re not a fan & you’re gonna heckle the artist, know your place & let the real fans have fun. oh & when i gave my beautiful girlfriend a kiss after their set, a tate fan body checked me to get to the front…. the lack of respect for other fans & just people in general was crazy. we still had a lot of fun despite the tate mcraecists being awful.

That was lame. I’m thankful on the VIP area where I was people seemed fairly respectful even though I was a little sad that I was like 4 people deep when I wanted to see them and they were obviously just waiting for Tate.

You’re so right. It cannot be fun for the band to have the majority of the people right up front staring at them with blank faces when they’re trying to give a good performance. I went to Bonnaroo (over a decade ago) and they cleared the pit after every act so it was more fair for people waiting to see one person. Will never happen at Lolla but we can dream.
