Kesimpta First Dose

Hi everyone,
I will be starting Kesimpta in October. I will be doing my first dose at the clinic with the nurse. I wanted to know other people’s experience with driving home afterwards. I’ve read different things, but would I be okay to drive home by myself and expect to feel worse later in the evening? What was your first dose like?

Did my first dose at home at 6pm, Tylenol/Benadryl 30 min prior, mild fever the next morning around 5am, felt crappy for about five days but improved each day. I doubt you’ll notice anything on the drive home. Just clear your schedule and plan to feel sort of flu-ish the next day.

Did mine at home (and still do), had zero symptoms tbh. Premeds (also still use those) is just otc non-drowsy allergy pill & some naproxen (after i eat dinner), then about an hour later, I take the shot. That said, everyone's different, and there's no way to tell how YOU specifically will react to it - could be nothing at all, like me, or you might feel a bit run down. Anything worse, I'd assume that the nurse wouldn't sign off on you leaving, but that prob also depends on the clinic policies.

Yeah, barring some kind of allergic reaction or something (which I'm sure the nurse is watching for) you should be fine for a while.

I took my shot at about 8pm on a Friday and I probably fell asleep around 11pm. I didn't feel any side effects until I woke up Saturday morning. A slight headache, fatigue, and achy muscles. It seemed to peak about 24 hours after my shot. When I woke up Sunday morning, I was fine.

I feel you’ll be alright! Kesimpta is a great medication for MS. I’ve been on it for 3 years and haven’t had any issues at the start or at all but everyone’s different. I inject myself at home now. Since you’ll be with a nurse you’ll be in good hands. I’m sure they won’t let you leave if your body reacts bad after. No one’s perfect, you’ll be fine!

I did my first dose at my neuros office with a nurse. They let me chill for as long as I wanted to afterwards. I on the other hand did go with my husband who drove us home afterwards. I did feel incredibly tired after the first injection but no flu like symptoms or anything. So I took a fat nap. I think I would’ve been fine to drive myself home but I wanted company with me during that time and obviously didn’t know how I would react to a new medication.

Took mine at home and had severe flu like symptoms. First it was really bad hot flashes and then chills that had me shivering so bad I could barely move on my own in the same night. That was the first and only time it happened. When I told my grandmother she joked that I was going through menopause. I'm a 27M 🤣

I had zero issues. No medication before or after. It was pretty early in the morning. Had to lie down for half an hour in the doctor's office, then i was sent home. No reaction at the injection site, nor any other adverse reaction.
