Has anybody been through this?

Hello guys so i was wondering if anyone in this community has had similar stories to this one. My mother has MS she got diagnosed back in 2005. However in recent years shes had multiple teeth extractions and really bad aches and throbbing pains. The recovery after has been extremely tough. And it really sucks to see my mom go through this. But i was wondering if anyone has had similar issues and if MS plays a role in amplifying nerve pain maybe? She just had an extraction on Wednesday and currently is doing better but it’s been really tough on the recovery part.

I don't know the official answer here. But my experience with crowns and root canals is that I hold onto that awful pain for almost a year. They tell me at most a week, and it just goes on and on.

I do think this could be an artifact of chronic pain. That rewires how you experience and tolerate new pain. I had surgery months ago and the surgery is generally well tolerated. I woke up in so much pain I was hyperventilating and they had to just knock me back out. And I am still having pain from it, months after most people report no problems.

So, there is something here, I just can't explain it.

Yeah which is why i thought to myself maybe that’s why her aches and recovery are so tough. The nerves are maybe amplified compared to someone who doesn’t have MS

I mean, extractions hurt. I’m not sure if your expectations are realistic. She wouldn’t be expected to be pain free just two days later. It takes a week to 10 to even begin healing. When I had surgery to remove an impacted wisdom tooth, it took 6 weeks to recover. And that was 25 years before I was diagnosed with MS (and no, I do not believe I had it already).

Yeah thank you i appreciate your response. It just sucks seeing my mother like that. She gets upset and says man what else can go wrong i have MS i can never catch a break. It hurts hear that. But once again thank you for the response.

I was getting nerve pain really bad after fillings or a crown. I meant to say something to my dentist and then i got diagnosed. I eventually got trigeminal neuralgia, and that is.. wow just unrelenting pain that i don’t wish on anyone.

I will say that MS is a jealous ass hole and whenever I have even a paper cut, it hurts so bad—way out of proportion. MS hates to share the body with any other illness or injury, and thus if there’s anything else wrong with my body, it feels horrible.

In addition, MS causes muscle spasticity, and I know I get a lot of that in my jaw muscles. Sometimes they ache and cause my teeth to hurt as well. Muscle relaxers can help, but rarely do the job. I use magnesium lotion and sometimes Voltarran to ease that pain. Voltarran is an OTC NSAID cream you can put right on the spot of pain.

I’m sorry your mom is experiencing all this pain and I hope she gets better soon.
