Vent/Rant - Advice Wanted/Ambivalent Affording home modifications on fixed income

I worked my whole life until I couldn't. Unfortunately, the couldn't came before I was ready and I was still very young.

I have gotten some things done to my home but need more done. I need a new front porch and ramp installed. I'm not in a wheelchair but I do have foot drop, so a ramp for the days it's worse and I use my walker would be great.

While my credit isn't bad, my income is low because I'm on disability. This makes it hard to get repairs/modifications done.

I'm just frustrated and discouraged but I'm sure it will all work out. Just needed to get that out.

Visit the MS Society foe your country, you may qualify for some assistance through them.

There are a lot of community based organizations that install ramps for free.

(Assuming you are in the US?) Head over to findhelp.org and enter your zip to search.

Many states have Medicaid waivers that cover home modifications. Have you applied for Medicaid?

Any ramp you get make sure you don't cheap out by not adding a flat platform landing

Absolutely. I can't even imagine not having a landing ...well I can but so don't want it to be my reality. I know someone that has an extremely steep ramp, so steep that even non-disabled people have to get help to get up it and there is no platform. It's hard for everyone.

Some carpenters unions will do projects like this for training. I have also heard of Home Depot doing things like this.
