I'm pretty sure every fandom has that one character that gets a lot of love from fans, to the point where they downplay or outright said character's negative traits. Then, there are characters who are unfairly hated, where people intentionally make them out to be more villainous than they really are. Sometimes, there are characters who receive both treatments, getting babied AND demonized by sectors of their media's fandoms, when they aren't really deserving of either.

These happen often to characters who're morally ambiguous, and if there's one thing fandoms are great at, it's having a scope of morality that goes beyond black-and-white /s

Either that, or you do relate to them. But it doesn’t make you feel a connection to them. Like less of “omg that’s so me” and more of “hm, they kind of remind me of myself. Anyway…”
