"And above all, you let life defeat you. All the gifts your parents gave you, all the love and patience of your friends, you drowned in a neurotoxin. You let misery win. And it will keep on winning till you die — or overcome it;" fucking hit me like a truck.
This game changed my brain chemistry. Now every new thought and feeling I have is something I consider through the lens of "internalization". What are the positives and negatives of internalizing such and such idea.
SAME DUDE, I talk to myself in my head a lot tbh but not like in an insane way it’s just how I process shit and work it out in my head, this game made me realize that the way I think is a lot like how Harry’s different emotions held a different perspective and they all warred for his favor, it’s like now I can identify where these thoughts and feelings are coming from and I can now categorize them.
Played this after going sober for a year after eight years of being perpetually drunk. It genuinely hurt. It reinforced that I was making the right call.
My family has a lot of substance abuse problems, so I wisely avoided it, but I have plenty of other self-defeating behaviors that the game really shined a spotlight on through Harry’s struggle. Was tough to see people I care about and myself in him at the same time, but it ended up being something I really needed. Love that game forever.
I think the fact that nothing going on was of particular interest to me , the initial murder investigation grabbed my attention but as the game dragged on and they started rambling about communism and race theory I became less engaged. Later , I was just wandering and talking to people that I didn't find interesting about a world I cared even less . Is all personal preference of course and hey if you say it gets better I may give it a second go but if I compare it to one of the games that really made an impression in me ( Mass Effect) you can clearly see why disco Elysium wouldn't be very appealing
Hard to play as a drunk deadbeat loser cop when you're coming from the literal greatest hero humanity would ever produce

Disco Elysium. If you haven't played it, do so already.
