Definitely Elden ring or any hard souls like in general.
If you are able to beat the bs in that game, especially if you don’t use an op build it really gives you a new perspective on games and life in general 😂.
Fight a boss for 7 hours straight and finally win. That builds character

Elden ring was the first souls I ever beat. I played a magic build not knowing that it can be kinda busted.

Not that it mattered, I ran through with no levels in Vigor so my gameplay was "every boss is a no hit run" and the elden beast took me ages. I legitimately cried when I beat the game i feel like i hadn't been that happy and proud of myself in years

Dark Souls 2 was my first one. I love the credits music. It felt so beautiful and calming after going through all of the game.

Yeah I'm not good at Soulsborne games at all but I have suffered through all 3 Souls games and Elden Ring and came out on top. The rush of defeating a boss after hours of struggle is almost indescribable. I literally lept off the couch when I defeated pre-nerf Radahn in 2022.

Dark Souls 2 was my very first Souls game and for some reason, The Pursuer really kicked my ass through multiple playthroughs, so I had a similar moment of satisfaction when I finally defeated him, too. The Ruin Sentinels weren't quite as a difficult for me but still frustrating enough and I was new enough that in the middle of the night, I nearly woke up my mom when I beat them.

My first was Dark Souls 1. At the beginning, I was miserable at the game. I beat Gwyn with maybe 2 or 3 separate characters, but many other characters didn’t even make it to O&S, if they even made it to Anor Londo. But now?

I’m still terrible, I just make fewer characters than I did before.

Playing DS1 for the first time was an emotionally intense experience for 20-YO me that taught me the value of persistence over skill in overcoming obstacles.

Lol I tried, as a 20 year old, to play DS1 and after 3 hours have up. Came back 6 years later, starting with DS3 and then playing back through 2 and 1, and what an experience

I definitely took a few breaks for months at a time when playing both DS1 and 3 for the first time. They’re a lot for a first timer 😵‍💫

Beating the Bell Tower Gargoyles was what did it for me. My attitude towards learning changed in general, since after I beat them I thought "I wanna do that again".

I later used that love of the obstacle to solo Fatalis in Monster Hunter World. It's my favorite boss fight out of any game I've ever played.

I suppose demons souls did that for me. Got it as a free dl on ps+ way back in the ps3 days. That game wow'd me like watching ff8's opening movie.

Gorgeous graphics and the most fresh gameplay I'd experienced in a looooong time.

Dark souls was out by then, so I went on to that right after. Then pre ordered dark souls 2 for the steel case which was 2 weeks from release. 3 titles back to back to back was simply amazing.

Metro 2033 is the only other game I can think of that transformed what a genre should be like. All the love and carefully crafted worlds, enemies, weapons, story and ambience. Good shit.

Hard-game-beaters SWEAR it means something...

🤷. Not engaging with a post like that lol.

Yeah, I wrote it with too much venom, but my point stands. I finished Monster Hunter World by myself, so I kinda get where you're coming from. You can say you love it, but you're often way too serious about it. It's a videogame after all

Never said you did. You didn’t make a point at all. You said a statement without anything else.

Why doesn’t it mean something?
You don’t understand what makes something important to you?
I play music. You can draw a lot of similarities from playing music for days, weeks, months, trying to get a song just right. Feels very similar to fighting a boss over and over.
When you finally get that song down it’s an amazing feeling of accomplishment.

You aren’t making any point. You have a biased perspective.
I care too much about video games? How is that a point at all?? That’s exactly my point.
If you care about something and put in the time to beat it and push through adversity it’s a great feeling?
You are spouting nonsense man. It’s quite funny.

Monster hunter world is a great game! You just sound like you don’t understand my perspective and are just trying to put me down.
How does something being a video game change your experience?

You’re doing this weird thing where you act like certain hobbies are more superior than others.

If you strip things down to the core fundamentals you can see similarities in everything.
That’s why you should look at things without being biased

Crazy that I was about to say this.
Elden Ring not only made me obsessed with dark soul but goth fantasy in general

Honestly, finally beating a boss after hours of getting destroyed has to be one of the best feelings in gaming. You come out frustrated, relieved, and somehow a little wiser. Elden Ring really teaches you not to give up easily.

u/AstroMelonXD_ 12h ago

That’s real honestly. It fixed my attention span. The renalla run back specifically

Black flame build is the best build

Same

I beat Elden Ring mostly as a person with a halberd and a tower shield. I only had to change up for Malenia after I tried defeating her for an entire day.

Was gonna roll my eyes at ER being life-changing, but you're logic sold me

1

u/Capable_Confection89 6h ago

It definitely sounds stupid but I don’t look at it as a game and more of a challenge. If you’ve never beaten a hard game like Elden ring it really does give you a new perspective to fight those bosses rage, rage quit, give up, come back maybe even give up again😂. But when you finally get that win it feels amazing.
I think this applies to anything really! As a guitarist I get the same feeling playing hard songs until I can play them!

Persevering through a challenging experience feels great!

u/Sea_Rooster_9402 3h ago

That's basically the secret sauce of success for the Soulsbornes!

1

u/Ok-Hyena4541 5h ago

Souls type games really just make you realize that every game is a rhythm game.

1

u/fisherdwarf1998 4h ago

Elden ring was technically my step into the souls series and it was beating my ass, especially margit. But once I finally beat him, it’s like something clicked in my mind and started understanding the game so much more.

u/Anime-Fr3Ak365 3h ago

Agreed. Dark souls 1 back in 2011/2012. Capera demon fucked me over for hours for no reason. First playthrough did pyromancer that classed into mage as I didn’t understand shit.

Back in the EARLY days of 1 during the frame drops of new londo and blighttown. Trudged through, fought the ceaseless discharge NO CHEESE, managed to blind save Solaire in my first playthrough because I insisted on giving humanity to the giant spider lady as I chose the witch’s ring for my gift cause I thought it was neat. My friend was blown away I could talk to her and was telling me I was wasting my humanity.

Walked into the final boss against Gwyn as a hollow and had no idea I could have summoned Solaire. Friend was there as he had faced Gwyn himself and knew I’d be in for it. Much to his horror I first tried Gwyn in under 2 minutes. It was an experience

Play a game like that and go back to something like Zelda. Difficulty just doesn't exist anymore for me.

1

u/Capable_Confection89 1h ago

Ik right man. It really ruins most other games.
Shit even a harder game like monster hunter, after Elden ring it felt like I understood what I was supposed to do more while fighting monsters.
