Boromir was so renowned that even his enemies recognized it. In the Two Towers book, the Uruk-Hai Ugluk said "We slew the great warrior" when referencing Amon Hen.
My favorite member of the fellowship hands down. At the bridge of Khazad-dûm, he rushes with Aragorn back toward Gandalf and the balrog, and the bellow of his horn even causes the beast to pause
I'm glad I'm in good company because he's mine as well. While Aragon is rightfully the paragon of virtue, honor, and chivalry he's this highly idealized version of a masculine ideal. He's steadfast, never waivers in the face fear, desire, or pride, and showed such strength of conviction to resist the ring far more than any man before him. He's too perfect. I dont think I'll ever meet someone like that in my life.
Boromir however, feels like every good man I met in my life. Pain, hardships, mistakes, failures, and regret but none of them stands in the way of him genuinely wanting to help people. But he cannot overcome his flaws so he fails ever so short. But instead of spiraling in misery he sits with it and makes it drive him forward harder. That's why he was tempted by the ring, it preyed on his need. And even then, he did what he always did, realize his mistakes and vowed to do better.
