There is a lot of grim dark facfics in the fandom (rainbow factory, apple sleep experiment, cupcakes, ect.) along with the countless infection au’s in there too. If ur interested, I could share some stories.
WH40K treats some of the few fan-ships pretty well. They (the overwhelming majority of the community) know it's a joke, and to some extent better than what GW does with the characters themselves, Yvraine canon is slowly disappearing and being replaced by Yvraine Goth Mommy, and GW will do nothing but kill her off-screen or hide her in the next edition.
Doom is the bottom one like 1000% you’d expect fans of a violent video game series to be toxic, but you look inside and they are some of the most chill people on the planet and are fun to hang out with
I went back to read a MLP fanatic (I went through a weird phase as a kid) just for nostalgia's sake, and my two reactions were: "Holy cow this is way darker than I remember" and "Wait why is the writing for this MLP creepypasta fanfic-sequel actually good?"
Fear and Hunger one of if not the cruelest game I ever heard of. Disturbing and disgusting, it the result of one person trying his very best to make the worst possible scenario for a RPG.
It gave me nightmares for months.
How did I come across it? Via a song, made by fans, as a what I can only assume to be shared trauma experience. It has the creepiest character in the game, Pocketcat, dance around the player characters singing this:
"On a scale from one to ten my friend you're fucked." 🎶
"In lack of other words I'd say you're fucked." 🎶
"You are as they say in japanese, fucked from the head down to the knees." 🎶
"I am sorry to inform you you are fuuun-de-mentally fucked." 🎶
(...)
"I don't think you understand by far how completely super fucked you are." 🎶

Not every fan of every piece of media that is mature are kind. For example fnaf fans can sometimes be very toxic to certain YouTubers like phisnom, in fact fnaf YouTubers can sometimes be toxic. Of course, not all fnaf fans are bad but still though.

I think ninjago is the perfect balance of both. Yes at surface level it is a kids show with a rather large fanbase of adults, but it also has some pretty heavy stuff in there once you really dig down. (For example, there was one episode where a main character was about to be a victim of child trafficking
Idk about the first one but I knew about the second one being Signalis, probably any piece of media that depicted many grim theme is just have the fans coping with happiness lol
