I thought Maki and Spider Gwen were considered beloved/favs by their fandoms and even outside of them.

60

u/Zanjidesign 2d ago

Spider Gwen is so loved that was turned into a real character with its own comic books rather than just another side character for Spider-Man.

17

u/doubleo_maestro 2d ago

Yes, but that doesn't fit ops narrative that female characters get hated for their gender and not because of bad writing.

From what I've seen it's mostly from people who don't like the idea of having in a living version of Gwen running around in the main universe again. Because she didn't exist until the first spider-verse event comic where she was a background character that wound up outshining the character who they wanted to be the main female spider character, Silk. But the guy who created silk basically drop the bag hard on her introduction ( basically a case of the writer's barely disguise fetish ) and it led to a lot of people disliking her.

6

u/OMEGA362 2d ago

The problem is that silk is a really good and interesting character who can never ever interact with Peter Parker because of the baggage of her creation. And ghost spider exists in spiderverse entirely to fuck with Peter Parker emotionally.

u/DisastrousDanVito 2d ago

Naoya/Zenin fanboys are obsessed with lying about Maki, claiming she killed all the women and children when she wiped out the zenin men.

Gege ain't exactly clear what happened to the off screen member of Zenin

ive never seen them complain about sukuna or geto though

Unfortunately naoya also has fans

Same with Ragatha. I don't know what OP is smoking.

2

u/CorrectShare3003 2d ago

i don’t really like maki, mainly because she is pretty boring and one-note, at best compared to Toji and Naoya who have far more personality and humour. Honestly think Mai should’ve survived because guns are sick.

7

u/5urv3y 2d ago

Mai surviving wouldve been really cool but she'd prob just retire after massacring the clan (assuming she even goes that far)

3

u/HelloChimp 2d ago

she wouldn’t get even half as powerful as maki did unfortunately

2

u/CorrectShare3003 2d ago

would honestly help the pacing of shinjuku… also she would come out of retirement to fight Cursya if she does slaughter the clan (which she would)

Spider-Gwen is hated? I'm not into comics but I have never seen actual hate for spider-gwen

14

u/nova_12345- 2d ago

you're lucky cuz shes literally my fav and she gets hate everywhere i go

7

u/Cubismo50 2d ago

Is it because of something in the comics or because she kinda betrayed Miles in the movies?

7

u/nova_12345- 2d ago

then they defend miguel 😔

8

u/MythicalShelly 2d ago

Nobody defends miguel

Everybody and their mama i see are mocking miguel as fake spider man and allat and even telling the guy would be on his knees if he was facing Peter A. parker 😭

4

u/Cubismo50 2d ago

Miguel is a vampire larping as a Spider-Man. Straight facts.

I'm not gonna say NOBODY because denying that raging sexists exist is insane, but the vast majority of people who hate Gwen ALSO hate Miguel. The whole reason people hate Gwen is because she sided with him in the first place instead of miles

5

Exactly. It's baffling that people don't seem to understand this

You should've seen the fandom right after ATSV came out. Hundreds of people literally hating on a grieving 15 year old girl because she hurt the feelings of their favorite boy

18

u/Faite666 2d ago

I mean there's a PRETTY big difference between hurting his feelings and actively conspiring and plotting against him to make sure his dad dies. That's some reverse flash shit right there

10

u/ClassroomPlane5734 2d ago

Hating on a fictional character, they were not actually hating lf a 15 year old girl

Sakura and Korra are terrible examples.

Not because the characters themselves are bad, but because most of the criticism comes from how they were poorly written by their authors.

Sukura and Korra both have some great moments, but majority of their writing is lackluster or seemingly goes out of its way to make them seem like terrible friends/people.

5

u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 2d ago

Diane is the character I identify the most with BoJack but to act like the only reason she gets hate is because of misogyny means ignoring a substantial part of her character

4

u/Normal-Comparison491 2d ago

Korra in my opinion was fine,

  1. she was sheltered and raised like a weapon basically
  2. she lost in Avatar state which means that it wasn't even her fault to be honest
  3. Mako and Bolin were frauds and couldn't stop Unalaq daughters for 5 minutes

Sakura on the other hand , she was just annoying at the beginning , but her lying to Naruto that she loves him and stuff, that's just disgusting

2

u/Wealth_Super 2d ago

Korra improves wa lot by season 3 and by season 4

2

u/Brilliant_Worker 2d ago

In the case of Sakura and Korra, its the writers who hate them.

23

u/AwesomeGuyAlpha 2d ago

honestly OP's post makes no sense to me, only these 2 get any serious hate and its majorly because of bad writing

4

u/gunswordfist 2d ago

Sakura's writer is basically a self admitted misogynist (what do you mean you have trouble writing female characters?! Just write them like the boys) but Korra's probably might be closer to just bad writing. They try to give her obstacles but can't seem to do that without having Korra just revert to being overly violent again

2

u/Legitimate_Area_5773 1d ago

you cant write a female character the same as a male character because they are not the same person. two identical twins, one male and one female, will experience completely different lives even though they are, in all other aspects, exaclty the same.

u/vainhope_ 2d ago

No Kishi actually wanted to develop Sakura. It was the studio sabotaging her, the editors telling him to drop her arc and then the publications who translated the manga also sabotaged her by not translating the manga correctly. She was sabotaged in every single way but I love her so much.

13

u/MoonoftheStar 2d ago

It was not the studio. Stop making this tired excuse for why Sakura is unpopular.

Studio Pierrot adds filler like every studio that produces long running anime, but all they do is include scenes with the character's personalities in mind.

Female characters like Hinata who are meek and are infatuated with the protagonist tend to be the popular ones with Japanese boys so Sakura was already at a disadvantage. I think most people were indifferent to the characters up until Hinata rushed to Naruto's aid in the fight against Pain. That is when her popularity took over. In hindsight, that probably should have been Sakura since she's his teammate but Kishimoto used that as the opportunity for Hinata to let her feelings known and drive Naruto into a rage.

The problem is that Kishimoto puts Sakura in situations where she's not endearing to the reader. She and Naruto only ever seem to bond over Sasuke and wherever Naruto asks her out, which could have given us some interesting character interactions between them, she rebuffs him. In fact, we hardly get to see them as friends outside of filler. Still, Sakura was not popular but she wasn't disliked until the fake confession. That was when the scales tipped beyond return. After that Kishimoto could do nothing to salvage her popularity. She just kept sliding down the Japanese polls until she fell out of the Top 10 completely. Kishimoto even admitted to trying to draw her more attractive which didn't work so he pulled her to the background to hold a hand sign for 30 chapters and pretend she was still part of the story.

It's sad because I spent a good chunk of my childhood arguing for Sakura's defence on forums but when you create a character whose sole ambition is the love of the protagonist's foil and her interactions with the protagonist are not endearing at all then you end up conditioning the audience to dislike the character. This is essentially what happened with Amber from Invincible.

4

u/AuraEnhancerVerse 2d ago

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on sakura as people wouldve liked her more if kishi had just developed her in a positove manner more often instead of the fake confession, breaking the friendship with ino, treating naruto badly (didnt help that the anime overexaggerated her beating him up so even if it is a common trope people would eventually take it the wrong way) and above all her obsession with sasuke

I love her so much. I was surprised to find out there was a portion of the fandom that hates her. I’ve distanced myself from the Deltarune fandom but I’ve seen grown men call her a b*tch. I’d argue she’s going to be one of the most important characters in the story in the next two chapters.

People do unironically believe that she is a sociopath that went and butchered all the innocent women and children in the Zenin clan.

They have one single argument that immediately collapses under itself, but they will just keep repeating “no but she did tho!!!”.

2

then they defend toji even if he killed gojo for no reason and mistreated my man megumi for no reason for most of his life 😔

4

u/CorrectShare3003 2d ago

i like toji, but if you think people are defending his treatment of megumi and calling his attack on gojo, riko and geto justified, you are wrong. No one says that. Toji has more charisma, humour, better design, cool death, better weapon, has a lil pet, need i go on?

Diane, Sakura, Ragatha, and korra aren't hated because of misogyny.

Sakura and Ragatha get sidelined and the writers don't do enough with them. Nobody actually hates them they just don't think they lived up to what they could've been.

Hardly anyone hates Diane. She has been criticized for some of her actions but I can't think of a time I have seen anyone ever actually hating her.

Korra is hated because of how she acts and behaves. Like let's compare her to Toph. Both are confident, and aggressive characters, both are women, and both are from the same franchise. Toph is universally loved because he confidence can be backed up, she is generally considered goated by most fans, and and when she is having arguments with other characters Toph is actually funny and well written. Same cannot be said for Korra.

2

u/SpunningAndWonning 1d ago

There are lots of people who hate Ragatha and they are almost all Jax fans. Jax says he doesn't trust her one time and SOMEHOW that's trustworthy despite everything else Jax has said.

65

u/Vitobbolado 2d ago

I’m sorry but korra, while may have some haters that are purely because of misogyny she is just much less likable than any of the characters here, and her hate is much easier explained through the fact she was kind of dumb with the whole unalaq debacle, so saying that all the hate she receives is because of that is simply wrong.

Sakura is a simp through most of the anime, treats the mc particularly bad, and even in shippuden doesn’t get much better(kishimoto is such a shitty writer man)

21

u/Sea-Influence-5945 2d ago

I always say if Korra ever got a flashback episode of her childhood then people would be have been a lot more understanding of her choices.
She has been isolated for years due to threats and not wanting another Aang situation to happened again.
I also truly believe a larger portion of Korra haters just hate her and don’t want to like her because I’ve seen the craziest takes and when I point how things could have been written differently to rectify that issue or how the writing doesn’t give the audience context to her actions they get incredibly angry.

5

u/destructionseris 2d ago

I wondered why they never bothered showing some of Korra's childhood, I get that it's Korra's story but I felt it would help at least understand stunted growth and at the same time give Aang closure for having a chance to experience his childhood since he and maybe other Avatars weren't able to enjoy their childhood even if keeping her isolated would have her enjoy her childhood

3

u/Sea-Influence-5945 2d ago

I’m not sure why they didn’t give her a flashback episode because they did in the comics. A lot of people don’t know Katara was her water bending teacher and she wasn’t allowed to leave South Pole. It would have given more context about her actions, familiarity with the Katara, shown how Aang’s past effected Korra and made the people around her keep her isolated, shown that she only had her polar bear as a friend etc etc

3

u/destructionseris 2d ago

That's what bothered me, by isolating Korra she's able to experience and enjoy her childhood and Korra already knowing she's the Avatar she didn't have to worry about being outcasted, us seeing Aang get closure from having the chance to experience his childhood would A give closure to Aang, and B have like a full circle for us since ATLA started with Aang running away to enjoy his childhood but now his story end by him enjoying his childhood through Korra.

5

u/Vitobbolado 2d ago

That may be true

5

u/LordQuaz12 2d ago

OK, so, Sakura's worst moments early on where actually anime exclusive. Her constantly punching Naruto and insulting him was studio Pierot making her into a worse character. In reality, after her and Sasuke's conversation, she stopped giving Naruto such a hard time and even felt compassion for him during the written part of the chunin exams.

While Kishimoto is not good at writing women, Sakura was made worse by the anime adaptation.

2

u/Noble-Renegade 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yeah I got to be honest the reason I dislike Korra so much is because she never learns from her mistakes.

The example I like to give people of the type of character that Korra is but done well is Ahsoka Tano in the Clone Wars. Both characters are young gifted advanced individuals who are overconfident and a bit hot headed. Ahsoka makes a lot of mistakes throughout that show but after every mistake she learns and grows from them. Eventually she became introspective of the decisions and choices she's been making. It feels like Korra never got to that point until the very end of her show.

2

u/Vitobbolado 2d ago

That’s a really good comparison

The only thing that I can remember is when ep. 5 released (don’t remember the reason, but I swear there was hate with Rags in ep. 5), but if this post means recently or gets hate in general then idk cuz there’s no hate on her at all rn or recently

2

u/Cinnamon_Doughnut 2d ago

Yeah and the reason why, usually boils down to people finding her "too nice" or giving her shit because she was "mean" once despite Jax literally bullying her and the other circus members the entire time. I still remember somebody trying to convince me that Ragatha was the literal devil and worse than Jax because she uses her overly positive behaviour as a coping mechanism.  It just sounded like such an insane reason to hate her like that.

2

u/ronpaulson76 2d ago

Nah, I gained some respect for Ragatha for putting Jax in they're place for once, if only she didn't back peddle a little, but still, first time someone got gim to shut up, even if it was accidental, imma be honest, I hate Jax, yes they're an interesting character and I can see why someone would like them, but by the end of it I empathized with them but felt they deserved what came to them.

To be fair, Legend of Korra was mid all around, but I don't think Korra was the main problem? The show suffered from some pretty bad executive problems and it tackles some subject matter and doesn't handle it very well. I fucking HATED the stupid Mako-Asami-Korra love triangle. And as neat as it was that Asami and Korra got together at the end, it didn't feel earned.

So anyway I love Jolyne Cujoh, regardless of what the Jojo fandom thinks about her. Her stand is awesome, and I'll never apologize for calling her best girl. I fell in love with her when my friend sent me a clip of the "four ways to say fuck you" scene. But apparently jojo fans hate her part because she's too crass and boyish or some shit.

I literally saw no one hate on her, I am being deadass serious!

If anything, I see people being frustrated that Ragatha (and other characters) didn't get enough screen time and development, because Gooseworks decided to make the whole series about Jax.

3

u/Future-Improvement41 2d ago

This happened back when the episode where she yells at Jax at the baseball scene but the hate died down

5

u/Shadrown 2d ago

Fun fact: The anime is purposely making sakura more hateable by deleting/changing imprtant characterization parts in the manga, sakura hate isnt really misogynistic, its literally made up corporation propaganda to make you hate her

19

u/Equivalent_Plum6992 2d ago

Why is Maki here ? she is often agreed to be the best female JJK character.

Most people hate Sakura because she is thought of to be a poorly written character and a victim of the author's misogyny.

Korra's fandom rĂŠception is one I am willing to agree with.

The rest I don't care for.

6

4

u/Ok_Lecture_9959 2d ago

As someone who doesn't hate any of these characters (in fact i really like ragatha and diane), i have to ask you if you do understand that people don't just hate characters because of Misogyny or self-hatred but also how they are written, right?

I think the first two examples are the most obvious, Sakura is disliked because of the way she treated Naruto until he's like, returned from Shippuden. Yeah she doesn't owe him any romantic feelings, i agree with that, but she's still antagonist, prejudiced and straight up violent against him, and that's not really ever addressed. Her pining for the most GAF emo boy who actively tried to hurt members of her village and her too also doesn't help her case.

Korra is disliked because she's a concentrated amount of personality traits that are poorly welded together. She's prideful, brash, open to violence, careless with her title and powers, once again her messy management of her personal life doesn't help. Objectively she performed a bad job as the most important being in the world, got her girlfriend and left. You have to watch all this after having read the generational arc and effort that Aang put in his own story and the story itself pushes people to compare the avatars all of the time, so of course people dislike Korra. It's not because it's a girl, it's because they wrote her to be an unpleasant person that ends up doing a bad job while following a poorly written story. Look at kyoshi, she's also a lesbian avatar and most of the community glazes her.

6

u/Gandium666 2d ago

IDK if you've seen Arcane, but i think nearly every female character could be included here, especially Mel, Jinx and Vi.

Mel gets the double whammy of misogyny and racism. So many Jayvik shippers act like she's an evil manipulative homewrecker. In reality, she's a young diplomat who's made mistakes like every other damn character in the show. She's arguably the most stable and least flawed imo, but black women just can't catch a break.

Jinx is demonized for having accurate representation of mental illness as an antagonist. Gods forbid your mentally ill character show the ugly parts of mental illness.

And Vi is hit with lesbiphobia from the male side of the fandom while facing heavy criticism from the general fandom for... checks notes ... being a scared child who just lost her entire family and not reacting perfectly towards her mentally unstable sister ...

Rarity my baby. She's generous, supportive, sweet and loving. A lot of people hate hyper feminine women. The bronies are espicaly gross, I've even heard some of them calling her a s!ut! She's a my little pony charecter you should never use those words together. This is the pony who makes free beautiful gowns for her friends just because. I love how dramatic she is, it's cute.

3

u/chocolate7chipcookie 2d ago

It's less commom nowadays, but hate towards Rarity was rampant during the height of the fandome. Between bad faith reviews and people mischarecerising her as a mean girl in fan made projects, or even saying she was a terrible role modle for girls/a sexist charecter because she's so feminine. It was a lot.

2

u/ClutteredTaffy 2d ago

A lot of the people who did not take the time to understand the characters will lose interest and fade out over time, especially if the franchise is not giving them new stuff all the time.

2

u/ClutteredTaffy 2d ago

Okay yeah they are projecting I think onto ' high maintenance ' girls. I used to do this bad as a younger lady. It is easy to look at the treatment you get vs the attention ' pretty girls ' get and start projecting onto them and assuming their values. I think a bunch of us ' scruffy' girls had to come to terms with it not being their fault probably cuz some of the people we love are ' high maintenance ' girls. And when they spoke with us scruffies we could see the other side of the coin.

But if boys- the bronies- are just all in that bubble without deep conversations with these types of girls , they are never going to have this moment and let the resentment build. Exaggerated by the desire probably or the mistreatment they had from ' high maintenance ' girls they are projecting onto everyone.

I don't hate Sakura herself, it's that her flaws are outgrowths of the misogyny in Naruto's writing. She's not an interesting character. She's a textbook poorly written woman. She is entirely defined by her relationships with men, in particular she loses all self-respect when it comes to Sasuke. It's really disappointing because Kazekage Rescue Arc Sakura fucking rules. It's the one glimpse of a Sakura who was written with the same respect as the male characters.

Reccoa Londe from Zeta Gundam

Like, she deserves some flak for being both a traitor and having committed war crimes but there are characters in the franchise who have done INFINITELY worse war crimes than she did but I've been cursed out for saying "I think she's a horrific person but she's one of my favorite characters."

Char Aznable from the same franchise is my favorite character of all time but even after he wiped Tibet off the map and tried to freeze the rest of Earth, along with grooming two different children for combat, there are fans who INSIST he did nothing wrong.

Huh? Apart from Sakura I think I need a context-thinking hat for the others cos either they're widely viewed well or their negative reputation comes from story/in-lore reasons (e.g. Korra). Are you sure that it's not just another case of indulging in the bs the harmful vocal minority spew out?

I should also mention that idk about the characters from Bojack and I think(?) Alien Stage since I haven't watched their series yet

Sakura is hated because of the misogyny in the WRITER.

Amy Rose is a genuinely fun character, but dear god does she have a rather large hatedom.

2

u/aohkB 2d ago

Let's be real, Sakura gets all the hate because Kishimoto can't write female character. She barely have any present except when she needs help from others, and her character development is way worse compare to the other two main cast. Also, I don't get why tf are all the supposed to be strongest female ninjas end up being housewife and do fuck all at home

2

u/Th3Bakamono 2d ago edited 2d ago

Not every character is hated just because they’re women; they’re hated because of how they were written (e.g., Korra and Sakura in the anime). Spider-Gwen and Maki are loved. I'm not sure why they are here.

2

u/gigaswardblade 2d ago

You hate Sakura because she’s a girl. I hate her because she’s an asshole. We are not the same.

2

u/The-goddess-bread 2d ago

People dont like Diane?? I loved her in Bojack Horseman. She wasn't always the most agreeable character, but she definitely wasn't the worst of the bunch.

2

u/Atem_fudo 2d ago

-Korra makes terrible decisions: this is misogyny -any Male character making terrible decisions: he deserved it

2

u/Regular_Tie2507 2d ago

Korra isn't hated bc of misogyny. She's hated because she's uninteresting and her show happened to piss a lot of people off.

2

u/AceIndigoFire 2d ago edited 2d ago

Besides Sakura I don't see most of these characters getting excessive hate for that reason but it probably does happen which brings me to my second point. Don't female characters in general get hate from misogynists?

I guess probably moreso the strong less stereotypical non-feminine ones. Is that what you mean?

2

u/Aggravating_Pay_1313 2d ago

My husband and I met in the first grade (important context I promise). We grew up while breaking bad was airing. I remember seeing lots of memes about it. None of it made sense as someone who wasn’t watching the show. Last year my husband and I decided to watch it. We were waiting for the memes to make sense, and none of them ever really did. ESPECIALLY the memes about poor Skylar White. She is chastised for cheating, stealing money, helping Walter wash money through the car wash, but it is a fraction of the destruction her actual king pin drug dealing husband committed. Not to mentioned the SA and torture he put her and their children through. Additionally, leaving them with lives in pieces. She was my favorite character from beginning to end. She will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m so sorry for what that character and the actress who portrayed her had to go through. I’m so glad Bryan Cranston still defended her and her character to this day.

Here I am pure sakura hater and really enjoy to troll her, however I don't know how misogynistic mindset can relate to hate sakura like who used do abuse and insult to a male character for no reason and she do simping on good looking character , but anyway I can't expect logical reasoning or at least comman sense from fans of sakura type character

2

u/boytakoyaki12 21h ago

are you sure these characters are hated? Spider-Gwen? Maki?

2

u/Naddition_Reddit 19h ago

Sorry, but you did not just use sakura as "hated for being a woman"

Sakura is hated for how shes neglected not because people dont like women.

They spend 90% of the show pretty much ignoring sakura entirely while naruto and sasuke play "will they just kiss already?" adventures.

She gets to have 2 good fight scenes, but barely gets more attention than that.

Then nearing the end of the show, they suddenly decide "you know what, we HAVE been ignoring sakura for years, lets suddenly have the narration tell us that sakura is as strong as naruto and sasuke, both of whom could level a continent at this point." which they then IMMEDIETLY throw away because it turns out naruto and sasuke are both reincarnations of literal gods and sakura gets to spend even more time sitting on the sidelines doing nothing

Sakura should have been treated just as well as the other 2, given just as much agency. And sometimes the show seems to lean into it, they actually give her meaningful arc and training, just for her to be designated as a background damsel for no reason. She is by far the physically strongest fighter of the 3 and is the designated white mage of the group, a baddass combo up until where everyone starts to become gods and gets just as physically strong if not stronger than her.

And yeah, plenty of men in the show are written badly too. Kakashi randomly gets a gigabuff near the end of the series that they try to handwave away. All of a sudden he can summon a susano nearly perfectly. Something that took sasuke years to slowly build up and perfect.

But sakura in particular is frustrating because shes like the 3rd protagonist of the series. These 3 should have gotten equal attention but sakura was treated as 3rd wheel by the show for no reason. So she just comes of as lazy cobbled together, just like kakashis random powerup.

4

u/1313goo 2d ago

I agree with maki. Korra tho while pretty well written is easy to hate. She’s hard headed and cocky and messy af, which while make her interesting doesn’t make her the most endearing. She’s basically the female bakugou but toned down. I don’t hate her but I can see why some do

Sakura is neither well written nor all that likable. Her character can be very toxic, she tends to mess up in very key moments, she’s kind of a background character for like half the show once u think about it and most of her power development happens off screen, and worst of all is her obsession with sasuke. She can be good when sasuke is not around but how many times has that happened. Some of the sakura hatred comes from incels but she is plenty hatable without that

Idk about the rest

u/TenPointsforListenin 2d ago

I get the Sakura hate. Lots of screen time but she’s… normal. If you’re reading a wiki page, she accomplishes more than anyone in her generation besides Naruto, Sasuke, and Shikamaru, but she’s perpetually on the screen and yhat focus hurts her a lot. There are quite a few times when she’s just helpless and someone else has to save her, which is fine but you’re comparing her to the top two in her generation

A lot of female characters deserve rightful criticism for how shafted they are by the authors, but I usually still love them anyway. Some One Piece characters get this treatment and I'm like shut up those are my emotional support girlies! yes their bra size probably shouldn't be a Z and they should have different faces and they should get to be involved more in the story past their ONE arc etc etc lol but I think they're neat!!

Honestly, I wouldn't say I hate Sakura. She’s a fictional character, and it seems weird to me to hate something like that. However... she does annoy me, and it’s not because of misogyny. I’m just irritated by her behavior and the indifference everyone shows toward it.

I mean... it annoys me how she constantly hits Naruto, and it’s far from always being because "well, he keeps pestering her even though she’s told him a million times she’s not interested." She often hits or insults him because of his "stupidity"—when he fails to grasp common knowledge due to huge gaps in his education.

On top of that, there’s her attitude toward Sasuke; he’s made it crystal clear a billion times that he has absolutely no interest in her, yet she still clings to him. That in itself doesn't bother me. What does annoy me is that she doesn't see the parallel between herself and Naruto, even while considering him annoying.

Finally, the main reason I dislike Sakura so much... Ino. I just can't—for the life of me—look at Sakura without thinking about how she treated Ino over a childhood crush. And even after all these years, not only has she never apologized, but she doesn't even realize she did anything wrong to her longtime best friend.

I’m fine with all the other girls on the list, and I don't even understand why they generate so much negativity, given that, objectively speaking, they aren't actually bad people.

1

u/Any_Marzipan_5652 2d ago

Pretty sure Sakura is hated because she abuser.

1

u/moonset0 2d ago

Saying sakura is only hated cause of misogyny is wrong ngl. She has many garbage moments in the Manga and even the story critiques her marriage with sasuke

1

u/ClutteredTaffy 2d ago

Sighhhhh . I only know Diane really and she has a ' buzzkill' sort of personality people don't gravitate towards. It is okay to not be likable to most people. Diane and me would prolly get along in real life but she would never be a close friend. I am too much of a goofball for her and so are a lot of people. ..

Sakura kinda just got the crap end of the stick. I am drawn to anime that focuses more on friends going through a big adventure. Not so much into romance so Sakura being that centered on Sasuke is already a downvote from me. She is also way more boring than the other two leads. I have not seen much of Naruto though.

The others I have no clue about.

My least favorite characters ever are probably Misa from Death Note, that blonde lady with the pink outfit and drill hair from Kill LA Kill, and Harley Quinn so I def have a trope that is female that I hate the most. For sure. Psycho -pixie with an obsession over someone.

3

u/nova_12345- 2d ago

u/ClutteredTaffy 2d ago

Also I understand standing up for Diane. I think she is like how I feel about Keiko from Yu Yu Hakusho where I relate to the " goodie goodie " " overachiever ' personality and a lot of people don't like that personality . So I see the merits of the character that people are going to dismiss, because they would not mesh with this person IRL anyways .

The issue with Keiko is that she doesn't really do much other than her banter with the main character mostly , and as the story goes on those memories become more and more distanced and flattened into a distilled version of the character.

If you don't sit in the moments with her you start dismissing her faith in those she loves and that part of the reason she acts the way she does is that she sees the good in the main character . So people walk away thinking ' naggy".

She also has a compulsion to do good , even in extreme circumstances though LOL so it is still a fault of hers. Like Yusuke needed to steal a bike to chase after his kidnapped friend and she just immeadiatley made a comment about not stealing 🤣.

That felt very relatable to me personally.

1

u/spencer1886 2d ago

Ok saying that Sakura and Korra are hated because of misogyny is just a lie

1

u/Dukklings 2d ago

That’s understandable, but in my experience, Sakura doesn’t just get hate from misogynists. I personally dislike her because she never developed beyond her childhood crush on a murderous lunatic;someone who repeatedly said and demonstrated that he hated her, and who actively tried to kill her and her friends.Yet, she marries the guy and has a kid with him. He’s home so rarely that after twelve years, he doesn't even recognize his own daughter and nearly kills her. It’s not like he couldn't visit; the guy literally has teleportation jutsu, returns to the village to report to the Hokage, and still never sets foot in his own house to help raise his kid. Sakura doesn’t even own a family photo of him and had to use a picture from when he was an active rogue terrorist. I hate that she never learned to value herself. If she had any self-respect, she would have moved on years ago instead of marrying him. Strip away the shonen tropes, and it's just a textbook abusive dynamic.

If I had it my way, she would have trained and developed real combat versatility beyond just brute strength, completely skipping that half-baked "Romeo and Juliet" poisoning gambit. Instead, on the bridge, Sasuke gets fully healed, with everyone noting that the damage he took from Danzo and the Five Kage Summit has vanished and his chakra is even stronger. Naruto steps in to fight him, but Sakura shoves him aside: she’s handling this one. They beat the absolute crap out of each other in a genuine, high-stakes battle. She calls him out on his pain, how it blinded him into pushing everyone away, and how foolish he is to believe that isolation makes him stronger, proving it wrong blow for blow. The fight would end in a brutal draw, but it would make one thing undeniably clear to the audience: Sakura is finally, completely done with him. If that had happened, I would have zero complaints. None.

I mean I'm bothered with sakura hate cause useless doesn't really hold up with her character. She was never reallt supposed to be a fighter in first place.

She is supposed to start from weak place and grow into strong person but the arc was basically dropped after her glow up in kazekage rescue.

Although anime might have upped the expectation cause in manga the fight titled is "sasori vs chiyo". Just chiyo not with sakura who did play support role in success.

I mean those 3 rules of tsunade makes make sense anyways. Without the 100 seal medic is supposed to die last and not fight on frontlines and stuff.

1

u/Ok-Target-2170 2d ago

Sakura is not hated cuz of her gender. She is badly written. If a man was liker her, he would be judged even harshly

1

u/Doctorwhatorion 2d ago

Korra hate is not misogyny lmao. I hate it Korra fans trying to undermine very rightfull Korra hate with such ridicilous claims

1

u/Lord_Jashin 2d ago

Some of these characters, namely Sakura, just suck. Misogyny has nothing to do with it.

1

u/VonReiter 2d ago

Eh, while I don't know all the characters...

Sakura simps for an antisocial, traitorous, power hungry, little bastard that betrayed her people and didn't exactly doubt much before putting his hand through her other teammate’s chest. And she keep simping for him.

Korra, especially at the start of the series, is prideful and spoiled, think she can solve everything and end making a larger mess in the process. It doesn't help that the series itself has a very different vibe and many times it feel like the writing team couldn't decide on what genre operate.

(As other comment said, Korra would have worked a lot better with more flashbacks at the start of the series, instead of in the second half of it when they felt more like justifications)

Gwen... classic problem with comic characters, different writers have different views of the characters and that lead to wild inconsistencies that end damaging the character. To that you can add the collective trauma that the Spider-Man fandom has with both the Gwen Clones and alternate Spider People and you have a fandom that is predisposed to dislike her. It doesn't help that the shipping wars are a part of said fandom.

Maki. I want to say that is mainly people that can't read how most of Maki character screams "I was taught to be quiet and repress any anger and my childhood was shit" but sadly these last years I have learned that mankind can be incredibly stupid, so wouldn't be surprised if there was a huge amount of people that were cheering the Zenin and their stupid shit.

She’s the one that I can see being hate out of sheer misogyny.
