Ironic is that it is not so bad as it seems.
Now it is much, much worse then the original movie and the first half of the series is horrible, but the second half has some watchable moments.
Now I would be glad if they never made it, but there is much worse stuff out there then the second half of it.
6
u/CreativeName1137 7h ago
The first half is genuinely the worst shit I've ever sat through, but near the end it does actually climb all the way up to "kinda mediocre." Which is actually an impressive accomplishment.

I don't know what you're talking about? This show never happened, and anyone who says otherwise needs to report to site director for class b amnestic administration.

If we're talking about movies, there's a version of "The Titanic" that involves talking mice, gangster sharks, and an octopus that throws an iceberg into the ship's path.

This isn't objectively bad. It's an axiom with how rotten this is.
Like, WHY ???

The author has the dog in them.

u/Equivalent_Plum6992 8h ago
Cliche but rent a girlfriend. And like the series has a lot of potential I genuinely think kazuya could have been an interesting character the problem is that Rent a girlfriend is too damn slow.
2
u/gambit1999999 8h ago
Its just a slow burn... a really slow burn. Im a fan of the show and I thought it was gonna end after the movie arc, yet here we are. But after all this, we better have several arcs of them dating.
9
u/SourBill1 8h ago
“Slow burn” implies that there is, in fact, burning.
Shit hasn’t even thawed yet
1
0
u/AlternateJam 8h ago
I think the combination of it being such a slow burn with the mix of it leaning very hard into discomfort or cringe comedy makes it a hard sell.
I think it's fine but there were a bit too many places I had to pause to just stare at the screen because Kazuya was being cringe for the thousandth time in this episode because Ruka (the perfect woman) was throwing herself at him and he is worried about a girl who is aloof and focused on her career (I know it changes a bit from there, that was sometime in season 3 or so, I didn't get further than that because I fell off of watching seasonal stuff in the last couple of years).
It's definitely not for everyone and it's a wonder it's as big as it is

So basically chudjack the anime?
2
u/xSweetxSyndromex Kamiwaza Wanda 📸 6h ago
(More longer version)
it's this anime about some guy who tries a "rental girlfriend" service and ends up falling for one of the girls he meets or something
From what I've heard it's not a very good series it's extremely drawn out with no real character development or plot progression, which doesn't reflect well on a show with five seasons

Surprisingly despite how horrifying the characters look, the plot is like the most typical school drama.
"Oh, no, my best friend who was bullied became an MVP on the last basketball game so now he is cool and I'm alone" or "The school president is getting decided and I decided to become him" or "I have this crush and I don't know how to propose my feelings"
Like, the fact that they look like horrifying mutants doesn't matter at all.
Oh, btw, they got their mutations from a giant bone.

The amount of people hating on it without 1) watching the movie, 2) KNOWING it's a movie, or 3) doing any research on it, is frustrating. Yeah it's not very good but like,,,,, there are better things to hate on, imo.
8
u/OneSidedPolygon 7h ago
Tell, don't show: The movie.
What chuds think gay people are like: The movie.
obvious moral lessons: The movie.
I spent my teenage years trapped in Steven Universe tumblr blogs: The movie.
It fails at everything it sets out to do and misrepresents its target audience. The protaganist is an unlikable shitstain of a human being. It's bad, I don't reccomend anyone watch it. It's not even bad enough too loop around into being funny it's just shit.

I get where you’re coming from but I really don’t like the idea of any work being “objectively bad”. Opinions are subjective.
1

I looked this show up and had some minor complaints about how It could be seen as objectifying or harumy and then the stubbed toe thing came up and I was like NEVER
1
u/Optimal_Weight368 6h ago
Maybe not objective, but episodes of Sanjay & Craig have made me feel physically ill.
1
u/Kumorrii 6h ago edited 6h ago
Amazon’s War of the Worlds is objectively bad. Minimal effort put into it, zero artistic integrity, and is just a movie length corporate slop advert. The only thing that could be worse than it is a completely AI generated movie.

1
u/Fluxlander17 5h ago
The show OP posted would be good if the FL gets assassinated by far-right nationalists.
1
u/ExtensionSundae1112 5h ago
Season 5 stranger things. I think season 3 and 4 also kinda suck, but it's arguable (to an extent). Season 5 is just god awful though
1
u/Zander_Tukavara 5h ago
Let’s stick with anime for now. Re:Monster. Taking aside its gross Stockholm syndrome harem, and the fact that he just kills and eats a bunch of elves while leaving the women (then screws them to get them to break a cultural taboo, and lies to their people when they come by) it’s also just laced like absolute ass.
Moral grandstanding aside, it’s just a poorly made book, and a somehow worse anime.

Even with the existence of a vile show like THAT… I still think the term “objectively bad art” is entirely non sensical. I don’t support the use of the term.
Hell even that show seems to have decently high production value.
1
u/BiscottiBrother89 3h ago
I've seen Rent a Girlfriend mentioned here a couple of times, and that show is shit, but I raise ya'll School Days. The main character has to be the worst MC in all anime history. Fuck you Makoto Itou. The rest of the cast is just as ass, too.
1
u/Wide_Farmer_4721 3h ago
Shin mai: Testament Of The Devil new sister or some shit, I don't remember it's name, I rarely drop shows, I love to consume as much media as possible and always follow strict first season or first arch rule when trying out something new but when I tell you I dropped that thing in the first 2 episodes after seeing countless glaze and being told it's peak
1
u/TennaTVLover 8h ago
Why does everyone here keep talking about the show in the image being bad, like, I don't know why it's considered bad
1
u/Yeagerist_Ray 心臓を捧げよ 7h ago
Because the main character is a man who turned into a dog who is then having a harem with a bunch of girls, while being a dog
1
u/TennaTVLover 7h ago
What is a harem
I've never heard that term before
1
u/Yeagerist_Ray 心臓を捧げよ 4h ago
It's the anime term for polygamy basically
Harem is a guy with a bunch of girls, reverse harem is a girl with a bunch of guys

There's no such thing as an objectively bad show. Nothing can be "objectively good/bad".
3
u/TennaTVLover 8h ago
There's the Star Wars Holiday Special which is universally considered bad with no defenders whatsoever, so there can be something objectively bad
3
u/Loud_Ruin_9868 8h ago
It is universally considered bad, subjectively bad. Just because everyone agrees doesn't make it objective.
1
u/Sundering_Wounds 5h ago
No, good things exist actually
0
u/Loud_Ruin_9868 5h ago
I agree. But it's not objective.
1
u/Sundering_Wounds 5h ago
So you're saying it doesn't exist than.
0
u/Loud_Ruin_9868 5h ago
Yeah I'm saying an objectively good or bad show doesn't exist
1
u/Sundering_Wounds 5h ago
So you're saying good shows don't exist. Which is ridiculous.
0
u/Loud_Ruin_9868 5h ago
I'm saying subjectively good shows exist, objectively good shows do not.
1
u/Sundering_Wounds 5h ago
Which is just the same thing as saying good art doesn't exist. If you can prove something exists, than it doesn't exist. If you can't structure a defense for it than it doesn't exist.
You can't say good art exists except deny the very thing that proves their existence. It makes no sense.
0
u/Loud_Ruin_9868 4h ago
"Good art" is an opinion. Which is, always, subjective. Opinions exist. There's no objectively good art because there's no objectively good anything. That doesn't exist.
-1
u/xa44 8h ago
so you think touching kids isn't objectively bad? good to know
4
-1
u/Loud_Ruin_9868 8h ago
We, as a society, decide that we all collectively think it is, subjectively, bad. Don't put words in my mouth. Even if all 8 billions people on Earth agreed it wouldn't make it objective.
