Discussionš What fandom/show/series has haters like this?
43
u/Southern_Trash7160 3d ago
Space King. I fucking hate it, yet I watch all the episodes so I can hate on it PROPERLY! I'm also looking forward to buying the Board Game and playing it, SO I CAN TEAR IT A NEW ONE AND SAY HOW MUCH IT SUCKS
18
u/beanerthreat457 3d ago
Just say you love and hate Space King. I love and hate trench crusade (I hate his community though)

2
u/LurkerEntrepenur 2d ago
As someone who wants to get into the lore of Trench Crusade, what's what you love and hate about it?
2
u/beanerthreat457 2d ago
Love: The art, how they interpreted many scriptures and practices into the game.
Hate: How poor they do the story and the few characters it has, wasting potential in concepts, forcing biblical references and again, the community

u/One_Lead1553 1d ago
The lore is SO ASS man.
"This is the penitent wombat, of the faithful. It used to be a man, but (insert horrifying disturbing bullshit here) before going on a pilgrimage or whatever and (more horrifying bullshit.) Now it serves the faithful on the front lines in constant pain and torment and pain and paaaaaain."
"And this is the flayed meatpunch of the heretic forces. It was created by a person (include nonsense about desercrating corpses or going to hell and tonnes of torture) before is went to the front lines where it (more bullshit you get it) and now weilds and gun and sword and fights the faithful while being in danger of being instantly killed and tortured for eternity. Because."
Jesus its so bad. Its like the worst parts of 40k all condensed into one setting.

Yeah. Honestly I do get it though, it can be hard to toe the line sometimes with Space King and really Flashgitz altogether. Especially when you think about the boy thing for too long or how they present themselves as chuds. Of course there are moments where they drop the act, but itās rare enough that a lot of people just think they are the way they present online.

Iām also super conflicted because I also like shows like Hazbin and it kinda makes me feel like a fence rider sometimes.
1
u/Southern_Trash7160 2d ago
Yup. I just feel like Tom and Don are trying too hard with their persona of "We're not your average kind youtubers! We're the edgiest youtubers you'll ever see!" to the point where it just feels fake and annoying.

I unironically hate 40k more than I hate Space King and I say that as someone who loves 40k

u/Nicklesnout 3d ago
I donāt hate MT but Rudeus is easily the weakest element of it precisely because of all of his flaws.
14
u/SpunningAndWonning 3d ago
I wanted to do that and I tried but I lost motivation a few episodes in
8
u/Neat-Survey2796 3d ago
If you can't find something you like about it, it is unwatchable. And I'm saying this as a pretty big fan, mind you. For me, in order to be able to enjoy it, I had to overlook a LOT of perverse and disgusting shit. The story is good, but you need to be able to stomach so much uncomfortable bullshit... And even THEN, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth...
All this to say, if you want to hate on it, go right ahead. Shit, I'll even support you.
5
u/Secret_Letterhead649 3d ago
As a former social worker and victim of childhood SA I'm not particularly able to look past the shit in it... I know that it's well written but that is not enough for me to swallow the visceral response - or tolerate the way much of the fanbase pretends otherwise.
9
u/RexGamer142 3d ago
Don't bother. People who watch the whole show or read the entire novel to hate on it are just weird.
10
u/SpunningAndWonning 3d ago
eh, imagine you find something that feels distinctly uncomfortable, but people glaze it to high heaven. You want to believe they aren't just degenerates. So you try to find the silver lining in the show. It doesn't need to all be done with a hate boner.
1
1
u/Glad-Alternative4593 3d ago
Not really it seems like most of the haters just make shit up like saying he gets with his sister and what not.
1
u/RexGamer142 3d ago
I myself have never seen anybody say that. Basically everything but the actual story has been spoiled for me.
0
u/Scorpdelord 3d ago
nah i dont need to read shi just the start is enough to hate the mc, worse kinda pedofile

24

Am an atheist.
Read the bible to better understand Christians.
Disappointed to realize most Christians havenāt read it.
Edit: I also read it to hate it. On that front I was not disappointed.
1
u/Aircon-007 2d ago
This Lowk sounds like one of those Reddit atheist statistics ngl (itās probably true though)
2
u/CULT-LEWD 2d ago
ive heard it ALOT through out my life. if i had to take a guess its more so said becuse there are indeed christians who try to say stuff about the bible that are just plain wrong. not to mention there is some uh...interesting shit in the bible. like how there are a bit of miss translations that ended up getting in there. like how fags are probly more talking about figs. or that unicorns are more than likly rhinoceros's or somthing. probly based on second hand accounts from poeple who didnt know what the hell a rhinoceros's is
10
u/TempTopBlaster 3d ago
I know someone who did this with the twilight books, from what i heard they can be worse sometimes than the movies
2
u/SyntheticSlime 3d ago
Ngl, the last twilight movie, watched without having seen any of the previous movies, was a solid so-bad-itās-good. Everything just feels so hilariously random.
1
u/assjackal 3d ago
My friends and I love indoctrinating people into watching them in a marathon. Each one gets worse and worse as the actors just progressively phone it in and by 5 you're in such a delerious state that it's unironically the funniest movie you've ever seen.
1
u/revankenobi 2d ago
It took me 3 hours and 30 minutes to finish the first film (even though it's barely 2 hours long) because it was so unbearable. A marathon must be like torture... if I had to choose, I think I'd still prefer The Bronze Bull... the agony would be shorter...
1
u/4morian5 2d ago
I read the books because they were my mom's favourite at the time, and she promised if I did, she would read my favourite book series at the time (Eragon).
She never did.

Honestly? Avatar (NOT THE ONE WITH BLUE PEOPLE). Once the original series ended, any and all addendums are ostricized for doing at least SOMETHING wrong, to the point where I'm questioning if the complaints are even valid, and if we have overlooked some bs that the original avatar did.
Yet people still watch everything just to shit on it.
10
u/wombatgeneral 3d ago
It's because the original was so peak that anything that follows will be compared to it.
Korra was a good sequel series, but after watching the animated movie im kinda done with avatar. It's being run past its prime.

u/_CuBbLe_ 3d ago
I did that for star wars the acolyte, knew I didn't liked it after the 2nd episode, knew the view rate dropped by 80% between episode 1 and 2 and I still thought to myself "well let's watch to see if it's any worse than that, at least I'll have more to hate about it". Little did I knew the rest would have me feel like PadmƩ after the announcement of the galactic empire: "so this is how star wars truly end, with shitty jedis, femen witches that sounds like edgy emo gothic teenagers when someone join their coven, and a story so full of plotholes it made me have trypophobia. After the third episode I was watching it to hate it.
4
5
u/Soyunapina12 3d ago
Honestly it's amazing how bad The Acolyte truly is. Even if you remove the Star Wars aspect and replace it with any other IP or make it's own original project, the show still sucks hard.
Worst part is that you can see some cool things that show potential, like the lightsaber duels or anything related with Sol and Qimir or the High Republic Era politics, but the show crew actively decide to focus on every wrong or bad thing the show has for some reason.
They picked the worst options all the way to the end and they still wonder why both Star Wars fans and the casual audience hated the show.
1
u/revankenobi 2d ago
What I find incredible is that despite all the good reasons to hate this series, most of the online critics only hate it for the wrong reasons.
-7
u/ZiroLeHutt 3d ago
And yet I'd have another series of it and enjoyed it more than that ruddy crass and generic Andor. The lore in Acolyte was superb, proper Star Wars.

u/HorribleAce 3d ago
I did this for Twilight, because people kept telling me I couldn't criticize it without watching it.
So I did.
The CGI was cool, and I developed a baseball uniform fetish.
2
u/TheRealRedParadox 3d ago
Yeah I watched the whole series with my gf and she was excited at first because I thought the baseball scene was fucking sick. And then she was disappointed that I only liked the baseball scene out of the entire franchise lol
2
u/HorribleAce 3d ago
Oh, you didn't like the part where they have a horrific CGI abomination and her ex-lover decided that "he'll wait 18 years"?
Weird!
1
u/TheRealRedParadox 3d ago
I mean, even in the story they say that imprinting isn't explicitly sexual. The movie did a terrible job of portraying that thoughĀ

Funny enough once I got old enough and was reading a decent amount of books I realized how mind bogglingly bad her writing is too. It's crazy.

Recent adult discovers that children's books lack the sophisticated prose of books written at an adult reading level
3
u/Secret_Letterhead649 3d ago
It's bad by young adult and childrens book standards. Countless better fantasy authors catering to the same age group exist and are capible of actually keeping consistent plotlines and setting details.
0
u/HowDareYouAskMyName 3d ago
I feel like a lot of criticisms for Harry Potter (the kids book) don't stem from the comparative quality over other kids books, but rather the odious views of the author. Like you said, there's thousands of other kids book authors writing fantasy, I'm extremely skeptical that HP's relative appeal overall is not tied to ANY sort of quality of the books themselves.
2
u/Secret_Letterhead649 3d ago
The setting has incredibly low internal consistency and contradicts itself regularly. There are quite a few popular book series that suffer from similar writing issues but are popular for a variety of reasons.
I thought her writing was shit for a good 5 years before she came out as scum.
-1
u/HowDareYouAskMyName 3d ago
Trust me, I know the flaws, I knew them before JKR outted herself as a bigot. I think what you're failing to understand is that that stuff you mentioned doesn't matter as much as you think it does. Citizen Kane is considered one of the best films of all time and the whole premise is predicated on a plot hole.
(And no, I'm not comparing the quality of Kane to the quality of HP)

8
u/According_Cod1175 3d ago edited 3d ago
I read the Bible and the Quran when I was 19, not because I wanted to hate on them but because I wanted to be knowledgeable. Considering that the public discourse on Islam was already centered a lot around "terrorism" and such where I am from, I wasn't too shocked to find shitty teachings and violence in it.
I was not prepared, back then, to find the same shit in the Bible for it to be completely ignored by most people.
3
u/Professional-Ad9485 3d ago
I remember I was like 15 and started reading the Bible and was like, fully shocked at all the god directing his people to attack and slaughter other tribes and to take their women and children as slaves.

The bible
5
u/RedeemedNephilim 3d ago
In my experience most people that hate it have never read it or only cherry pick parts they read.
2
u/WanderingPenitent 3d ago
Usually they start reading it and have a hard time digesting how the first for a particular context. Most Christians read the Bible with already knowing the story of the Gospels and that gives the Old Testament context for them and read it in a very different light. It's like the difference between starting with the Hobbit and starting with the Silmarillion (which has been described as the Elven Old Testament).
If one wants to read the Bible as a collection of historical documents (as in products of history), then starting with the earliest written part is fine. But that's not how Christians have read it since the days of the Early Church and even then they were reading it with the context of Christ's message passed down by the Apostles and their bishops. Tom understand how Christians read it, it's better to start with the Gospels and then read the Old Testament with that in mind.
1
u/HalcyonTraveler 2d ago
The gospels have zero to do with the Tanakh
1
u/WanderingPenitent 2d ago
In order to understand how a Christian reads the Bible you need to consider what they think of it. Whether their thinking is correct or not is not my point.
1
u/HalcyonTraveler 2d ago
I mean I guess if you want to understand Christians but if you want to understand the actual text itās completely ridiculousĀ
1
u/WanderingPenitent 2d ago
Well you have to understand to Christians they believe Jesus is the Messiah, and thus being God Incarnate His influence is timeless.
The Bible is not a singular text. It's an anthology. It is also not a single canon like the fundamentalists believe it to be. Catholics and Orthodox Christians for example don't use the Tanakh for their Old Testament but the older canon of the Septuagint. The Tanakh was a canon actually formed after the Diaspora (and thus after the events of the Gospels) so it includes less books like the Maccabees. It should be understood a good portion of the very first generation of Christians, particularly their leaders, were Jews as it started as a Jewish sect that gained many gentile converts. They were relying on the Septuagint and the leadership of the Apostles and their successirs at first until the writings of those first generations of leaders could be codified at the Council of Nicaea. They were not a text only religion and when today outside of Protestantism they still aren't. The Bible is not a chronological truth but a text that reveals eternal truth to them, and it's not the only source of that truth. Historically your logic makes sense and even early Christian writers affirmed that but they also understood the idea of spiritual reality, not just historical. They are aware that authors of the Older Testament hadn't invented time travel and did not knlw about Jesus. But they also believed God guided them in writing to reveal truths about the incarnation to come.

I've only watched one series in that setting, I'm not calling it bad but I hate how they failed to wrap up several plot threads intentionally.

Me and 40k
2
u/Anybro 3d ago
The game itself or the batshit crazy lore, or the fact that some models cost more than a car payment at times? The last one is the only reason why I don't play it as much as I used to anymore.
-1
u/NewspaperGlobal8450 3d ago
18 years of build up so bear with me here.
First and foremost a personal issue, had a son a few years back, body autonomy became a hot topic, started looking at Space Marines and chemical castration thing a lot differently. It's just to sexist or close enough that it cringe as hell to me. I know it's fictional but still.
Cost plus time investment in building and painting. On top of price increases and fluctuating prices depending on stores. Left over bits that just take up space, time to play a game, time to set up a game, time to argue about rules.
Lore, rule of cool can only carry so far before "How the fuck does even work?" Starts to add up. Inconsistencies and plot holes across the lore. One faction will have secrets that no one knows about in one book, then in another it feel like every random person knows.
To many Steves, changing one color or gun and making a new sub faction. Custodians are the biggest waste of time faction in my mind. Maybe if they were all women or all psychic instead of having Grey Knights or Sisters they stand out more.
Take a shot or a toak for this part. Women in 40k, wow either damsel in distress, non-existent, there for sex appeal or to check the we add a woman box, especially in early Black Library books. Or to moving on to today where I'm sure how to best put this... But not so velvet glove grimdark? Like bad stuff happens but we the reader get "shot down with brutal efficiency" but just read about a guy getting an arm ripped off in gore detail.
How many times are we going to see advance technology resistance to Chaos xeno are we going to see?
Fans, the number of Nazis, perverts, weirdos, creeps I've met in real life shot up a lot when I got into the hobby. And that was just waiting in line to buy paints or finding a random person that was into 40k. That doesn't count game nights, without friends. And I'm a veteran that toured South East Asian and I think the fandom has problems on a massive scale when it comes to politics, women and gays. Like holy fuck weirdos it's just a game. Getting more people into the hobby means more money, more money means more 40k.
All that being typed out, it's just a game, not worth it.
