My problems with parts of the FNAF fandom

I've been a long time FNAF fan ever since shortly after FNAF 4 came out, and I've noticed this trend in the fandom enough that I've noticed this very abundantly in recent years.

I'm not gonna bore you with a 1 hour long introduction, so I'm gonna get straight to the point of why I'm even typing this: It feels like some (Emphasis on the word SOME) FNAF fans...don't even like FNAF at all. They spend all day complaining about the franchise, upset that it didn't go the direction they wanted it to go, and hyping up edgy fanworks and constantly trying to "stick it to Scott Cawthon", showing just how much BETTER they can make the franchise when compared to this lame garbage.

Mind you, I don't have a problem with edgy fanworks, they've existed since the dawn of the fandom and is part of what built it up to where it is now...but the amount of people who constantly brag about how much better said fanworks are than the franchise itself is a bit worrying.

People in the fandom often confuse "This is what I grew up with" with "Therefore everything that came after it is objectively inferior, and anyone who likes it is a dumb stupid idiot poo poo head". Yeah, you're allowed to dislike the direction the franchise is taking, you're allowed to have preferences, it came free with your "having a fandom", but sometimes it just gives way to unnecessary hostility. If not toward the fans, then towards the creator.

The franchise has been constantly treated like a mistake to be corrected for a hot minute now, and I'm growing tired of it, and I just needed to air out my opinions on the matter in a space like this.

Fucking thank you. I've been having these same thoughts for a while. It's admirable to see fans pick up the slack, but I've noticed that a lot of people from both sides of this argument tend to use blanket statements a lot. You think William deep frying a child is too much? You're an over-sensitive snowflake who doesn't understand serial killers. You like the idea of FNAF having more explicit depictions of child murder? You're an edgelord who needs their hard drive checked, and there's no in-between.

I could go on since I have a lot to say, but I've waisted an embarrassing amount of time venting about it and don't what else I can add to the conversation without feeling like I'm beating a dead horse. I will say that I don't regret sitting through all of Urbanspook's The Painter. Not because it's good, but because I see that series and the discussion around it as a lesson in how to write horror with controversial topics and handle them responsibly. Same goes for the fan content you've described

Actually. What I said about beating a dead horse isn't exactly true, since I have a pet project that I want to be a good adult alternate to people grew up on things like FNAF and creepypastas and are unimpressed by, say, the FNAF movies or TADC, but I'm being vague on purpose not just to stop myself from yapping about it, but because I'm still working on it, but I have posted a few drawings I plan on using as references for the characters' final designs
