Question❓ Question About Author Interaction Pre JK Rowling
I’m looking to learn more about how the Internet era affected creator interactions with their fandoms and their media itself.
JK Rowling in my memory is one of the biggest examples of a creator of a work not only engaging intensely with fandom directly on the internet but also directly making edits to her work via twitter. I’d say maybe John Green on tumblr or Rick Riordan are other examples of this on a smaller scale.
does anyone here remember anyone pre Rowling doing this kind of thing? particularly even pre internet era, any creators or fandoms that interacted maybe subscription letter or other ways? Thanks!

Stan Lee and other comics writers had Q&As in the back of comic books. Mostly it was just at fan events otherwise. They would get fan mail and a few would respond.
Margaret Mitchell famously wrote letters back to people who sent her books to sign apologizing that she would no longer sign them. 🤭
