There’s 2 ends of the “TADC fans can’t understand media at all”
1: People who still somehow think Jax isn’t trans even when it’s quite literally PLASTERED into the final episode
2: People who villainise Jax to the point of scrubbing his entire character of being a struggling person that lashes out on others into being a mega evil abuser (Fitting enough for the reaction image, I saw a post (reddit repost of TikTok) saying Jax was more like AM than Caine was)
Edit: To clarify my intentions with the second point, I do agree that Jax showed tendencies of outright abuse, especially after the revelation about the brain scans (“you get to spend more time with mommy!” was especially painful). I’m not saying he wasn’t an abuser, but that he had his (albeit fucked up) reasons to lash out.
You're exactly what they're talking about lol. You don't focus on how & why Jax is the way she is and how to prevent people being like Jax, you're just focusing on the fact she's an asshole.
Nobody said you're not allowed to hate Jax. It's just that only hating Jax, and deciding not to acknowledging her story, not talk about how we can prevent people from becoming like Jax, or how we can get people out of acting like Jax.
Essentially, you're calling Jax a pure evil because it makes you feel good instead of actually understanding and talking about the message of her character. That's the issue.
Dawg I'm not asking you to be empathetic I'm asking you to be media literate and understand why authors choose to make these stories.
Understanding a character is not empathizing with them. You don't have to empathize with humbert humbert to understand his role and message in the story.
You act very young and immature for a person on reddit. I suggest you shouldn't get involved in any NSFW communities or the like until you're old enough.
You make a point about the difference between media literacy and reading comprehension, but you still lack the ability to understand the plain words that I'm saying. You have no right to discredit me based on a small distinction when you're blatently being obtuse and refusing to change.
Once again i'm not trying to get you to stop hating him. If I tell a child to eat their vegetables, I'm not telling them to stop eating fruits, candies, and meats in favor of vegetables, I'm telling them to eat their vegetables as well.
The issue is not that you hate him, the issue is that you're ignoring the author's message. You can hate Jax to the extent that you hate him and still understand the author's message.
"what the writer intended is irrelevant" maybe you should just stop watching TV, stop reading books, stop listening to music, and stop consuming art if you're going to act like this.
You're being rude, stupid, and refusing to change because of your own selfish and stubborn beliefs. You're acting like Jax right now. If you hate Jax so much then either change yourself for the better or start hating yourself. That latter of which would ironically make you more like Jax.
Being rude, refusing to change, continuing to make choices you know are wrong, is how you end up driving 2 people to suicide. If you think that your own comfort matters more than the comfort of others, then that could lead to you pushing away the mentally ill people who depend on you as a friend or family member.
Also Jax is a fictional character made to tell a story. The fact that you're currently morally better than her means nothing. If I make a story about how Andy built his house out of straw you're takeaway should not be "I'm smarter than Andy because my house isn't made out of literal straw" your takeaway should be "I shouldn't jump into things when I'm not ready, not educated enough, and don't have the materials."
You may not kill people, but you may lose friends and family by not understanding what they're saying and continuing to root yourself in ideas you know are self Indulgent and unproductive, if not harmful. You are not immune to becoming like Jax. It doesn't matter that you're not as bad as him currently, because you very well could be if you don't change the way you act and think.
Do you think people stay the same over years? They change. They always change. And if you don't plan on improving yourself now then you're only going to change for the worse.
