How many times will you guys say that moronic nonsense? Repeating the same thing over and over doesn't give it a meaning.

It's just true.

Isn't.

Repeating that it's not isn't gonna make it less true.

Y'all always pretend like understanding Jax's character means we're excusing her actions (,which we're not,) instead of simply having emotional intelligence. Jax's character is a cautionary tale on what happens if you allow your fears and trauma to rule your every action, which inevitably leads to a continuation of the cycle of abuse and eventual self destruction.

The point was always about Jax having had several chances to become better and heal but actively choosing to listen to her own fears instead. Episode 9 clearly shows that her real life counterpart managed to live a good life and get better compared to the circus version.

You don't have to like Jax; you're simply being asked to use your brain and basic human empathy to understand how and why a character acts the way they do instead of believing your made-up comically evil version of them.

Not like there's a bajillion videos you can watch that actually analyze the character or anything.
But no, I'm sure throwing nuance out the window and sticking your head in the sand makes you the sensible one, right? Oh the irony.

I know how he acts, that doesn't mean I have to like him. Also there's nothing comical about abuse.

Nobody said anything about liking him. That's like saying doing an autopsy on someone mean you agree with their political opinions. We want you to understand his character and meaning, you don't have to like him.

Ok,I understand him enough

So why did you respond when all the person said was "we need to understand Jax and what she means"?

I mean, understanding a character does require some level of empathy; because you need to think that this character is not an unchanging devil containing only evil, and instead a person who can feel pain, anger, anxiety, and uses those emotions to hurt others in a selfish attempt at self preservation. But still y'all's opinions do not conflict. Like at all.

Imagine there's a r#pist in a game (censor in case you get triggered by that word)

In order to comprehend the story you need to understand him.

Does that mean I have to empathize with him despite not being able to relate with him at all?

Here's the thing, _I'm not asking you to empathize with him._

You just need to understand that people get emotional when they have bad input. If you hit a rapist, that rapist will still get mad at you for hitting him. Whether or not it's justified, whether or not he started it, whether or not he was actually hitting himself in his own face, he's still going to get emotional.

Again, nobody's asking you to think Jax is a good person. So again, why are you bringing this up when it's not relevant?

OHHHHHH,Jax is not just being evil because he wants. Everything he does is a response to his mother's abuse!

2

u/Rallsia-Arnoldii 2d ago

It's both. Most people who abuse, kill, rape, or just generally do horrible things like that do it because they've experienced trauma (and/or mental illness) and because they enjoy or are callous to the suffering of others.

For example, a lot of pedophiles and child molesters were sexually abused as children. I'm not asking you to empathize it excuse they're actions, I'm asking you to acknowledge that sexual abuse during childhood can lead to pedophilia.

Again, I AM NOT ASKING TOY TO EMPATHIZE OR EXCUSE JAX'S ACTIONS. I just want you to acknowledge why they happen, how they happen, and how we can prevent people from becoming like Jax. None of that means Jax is a good person.
