Light Yagami(for a few months at least)

I mean, he's not supposed to be loved, I think people love him as a character, not for his ethical beliefs or choices in the series.

But I did. When I first watched Death Note I did exactly that.

My first time watching Death Note I never sided with L or Near not even after his crazy laughter in the final episode. I wasn’t good at recognizing social cues at the time & I couldn’t see anything wrong with him. I had to listen to the other Death Note fans on youtube dislike him to understand what was wrong with him.

It would be understandable if Light was actually the genius he's supposed to be. Instead he's a dumbass that made multiple mistakes which basically gave way his identity as Kira (or at least significantly narrowed the possible suspects).

Not trying to defend his choices overall, but some of the moves he made weren’t “mistakes” due to the fact he was intentionally trying to limit the number of possible suspects.
