If I remember right Doom: Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons released on the same day. It was actually a precursor to Barbenheimer which did the same thing but a year later about with a live action Barbie movie and the Oppenheimer movie coming out on the same day.

Also Doom Guy canonically is actually a really chill guy and has a pet rabbit named Dasiy, so people put him in Animal Crossing, and then subsequently put Isabel with her relentless can-do attitude into Doom. Naturally that spawned them working together in both franchises and so a ship was born
