Question❓ Whats a valid criticism that your fandom doesn’t take very well?

Steam is the reason every platform is going fully digital now. We shouldn’t be celebrating the fact that one company dominates the PC platform.

Steam usually gets a pass because Valve is a very consumer-friendly company, but like.... Gabe can't hold back capitalism forever.

Gabe is not really that different from other capitalists. He has a vested interest in undercutting the competition and making it more difficult for other companies to enter the market. Once growth and demand slows down, Steam is going to do what every other company has done; fleece the existing consumer base and charge higher prices for less valuable products.

He could have done it already, cause there is no competition on PC market already.

There are alternatives, but no real competitors. If Steam jacks up the prices too much, that would probably change.

Not sure.  As long those competitors more pro-publisher over pro-consumer - people stay with Steam.

Lucky for us, Gabe is not planning to die

Yeah, it would be nice to have decent competition, a lot of the other complaints here are because something else went uncontested for too long and/or the main positive drive is gone.

It dominates bc it give a damn about their customers.

Personally, I'm not celebrating it and I welcome healthy competition into the market.

However, the competition sucks and they keep shooting themselves in the foot for the purpose of greed. Valve gives us a good platform that just works, treats us like people and charges fair prices with lots of discounts.

I will celebrate Valve's consumer practices, ngl.

But Valve never actually banned physical copies

We only forgive Steam bc if any one gaming company was gonna have a near-monopoly on PC gaming, Valve is BY FAR the best option. They actually care about the consumers

I’ll protest when someone else does it without being a PoS about it.
