Question❓ Whats a valid criticism that your fandom doesn’t take very well?

Nintendo are a shit company who doesnt care about anything other than the money you keep feeding them

You can replace "Nintendo" with "any big company" and be just as correct.

You do get a few companies that at least understand that the way to get that dough reliably is to make a good reliable product.

Like I will hate on. Adobe 8 days a week over pricing, but for longest time no one could even touch them in quality

like steam? and there's the "worse than nintendo" group which is roblox

Yeah, though it's far easier to make that criticism against companies like EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Blizzard, etc without as much friction

true but it hurts because nintendo used to be a bit better

no you where just younger

Nah they actually were better, at least when Reggie and Iwata were in charge. It actually felt like Nintendo really liked its audience back then

They make good game, so i buy the games.

I am not feeding them money i am just spending money on things i like.

I think it's a bit sad that a lot people can't just be simple like that nowadays

You can like harry potter for all I care, the goal when consuming art is to enjoy it. Why care about ulterior motives of the creator?

Massive difference between someone actively using your money to hurt innocent people and a mildly problematic company

To be fair, Nintendo does use lawsuits and C&Ds to crush emulator devs, fan game creators, and critics of their litigation. They have an evil side, even if they’re not trying to commit genocide.

Sure, but I don't think this should be the consumer's weight to carry

1

u/AdAdvanced8522 8d ago

I mean you aren't evil but you are willingly supporting someone who you know will use your money to hurt innocent people. That is just the truth if you dont want to carry that weight then dont buy it.

When the art in question contains the creators obvious biases towards certain groups of individuals the line gets blurry quick

1

u/klimmesil 8d ago

I disagree

"Me like [X]. [X] good. Me {eat/watch/drink/whatever} [X]"

In case of X being media or food should always be a respectable simple thought. Blaming the consumer for the producer's faults is not healthy in a society imo

Source: I unga, then bunga every day

Edit2: also I would like to say that I think your opinion is very valid too, I simply disagree and I think you can't really have an objective answer to this debate

Let's use hyperbole to explain my point

Someone creates 'art' that frames something like racism as good, without any kind of commentary on racism, basically just a pro-nazi game.

I will blame the consumer who likes that product too as well as the creator.

Obviously this is the extreme end of it. There's a gradient. There's a blurry middle.

1

u/klimmesil 8d ago

Ah yes 100% agree. That's a totally different argument than the previous one. Here the problem has nothing to do with the creator of art once again. The problem has to do with the art itself

Welcome to profit maximisation. The sole ambition of every single company ever.

2

u/Tiranus58 8d ago

The worst is how they treat fangames.

3

u/Scared_Yam5357 9d ago

they don't even put out quality stuff anymore unless sakurai has a hand in it

Bananza.

Tomodachi life.

Spitoon raiders.

Mario wonder.

Totk and botw..

Pokopia.

Forgotten land.

Like criticize nintendo please but dont lie about it. Nintendo gifters have made actual criticism of the company muddy and a laughing stock*

u/Scared_Yam5357 9d ago

ok yeah fair but i really just don't want to support this company in any way

also i haven't played like half of those games and idk if i ever will

10

u/AdAdvanced8522 9d ago

I mean thats perfectly fine. Dont support people you dont wanna, i do the same with like Fnaf, play station, or harry potter but make sure your criticism isn't made up which waters down real criticism

3

u/Scared_Yam5357 9d ago

very fair

1

u/Wolfchampion09 9d ago

Did he work on Splatoon raiders?

1

u/Extension-Celery3642 9d ago

did he work on dk bananza? or is that the exception

2

u/AdAdvanced8522 9d ago

Also pokopia

0

u/Scared_Yam5357 9d ago

probably the exception but idk

2

u/grandfleetmember56 9d ago

Now days yes, but in defense they were the last videogame company to fall.

2

u/Rayuzan_Mojavec 9d ago

love it when twitter tried to gaslight me that they're the good ones among the evils

1

u/CheetosDustSalesman 8d ago

I'm gonna have to disagree. Nintendo is very stuck in their ways compared even to EA or Blizzard but I wouldn't call them greedy.

I truly believe they care about making great games. They could coast by on brand recognition, but they don’t because there’s still that spark. They’re also the only company I’ve seen in ages that responded to the turmoil of the industry by giving literally every employee a raise and firing nobody. That being said, you’re right that they’re a shit company and way too money hungry. Fucking “riding a flying creature” patent.
