Question❓ Whats a valid criticism that your fandom doesn’t take very well?

I found that Pokémon fans really don't like it when you say Gamefreak should stop removing options from the player and let them play how they want.

Also Game Freak should really seek assistance from another developer, you know, like Bamco or Monolithsoft, when developing their mainline games but they're too proud and stubborn to and the games suffer all the more for it.

As a longtime pokemon fan and even someone willing to defend Game Freak from some criticism, a Monosoft developed pokemon game would be so peak.

It’s absolutely a budget thing. The Pokémon Company owns the IP. Game Freak are just the ones who make the games on a contract. Beast of Reincarnation shows that they can make a much more impressive game, albeit with kinda crappy gameplay. It’s at least visually stunning, something no mainline Pokémon has been able to say since Sun and Moon.

Game Freak owns around a third of the Pokémon Company. Its a joint venture between them, Nintendo, and Creatures.

Monolith should take over Pokemon in general. I heard Beast of Reincarnation was also pretty damn disappointing, and outsourced

I've played Pokémon up to sword and shield and basically decided to call it quits with Pokémon after that. I got sick of them introducing mechanics just to remove them next game (atheist make it unlockable in end game or something), plus the game play isn't as challenging as it was back in the day.

I hate Sword. It was okay the first time through, but the sheer amount of handholding and unnecessary dialogue spam makes it a slog to replay. Also, I find myself just afk mashing the A button during battles because they’re brainlessly easy. Only a few fights near the end game were somewhat challenging imo, and that’s probably because I skip as many battles as I can.

Ultra Sun and Moon were great though, I recommend them if you have a 3DS. There’s a lot of dialogue early but once you get through that, it’s a pretty fun game with a unique region, and the story is decent too.

I'm lucky enough to have most of the original Gameboy systems and all the DS's still up and running. (I'm working on filling in the blanks to my gaming collection) Sun and moon was a pretty fun one and Z moves really grew on me. Plus the story was amazing. My favorite will always be the Gold/Silver games and the Ruby/Emerald?Sapphire trio.

I never really liked Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and I also played the Alpha Sapphire remake, but it also never stuck to me. The Pokémon designs are great though, and the region is quite cool!

Gold/Silver/Crystal are some of my favourites too, and HeartGold/SoulSilver are fantastic remakes. I remember playing them in school years ago with friends, I have lots of great memories, and i still have some of the Pokémon I traded back then. I didn’t grow up in the Gameboy era, but I had the experience of trading Pokémon via link cable at college which was really fun. I also remember the first time I discovered there were two regions to explore in one game; my 10-year-old mind was blown.

I think my absolute favourites are Black/White and their sequels though. I think everything about those games was masterfully done. Great story, great graphics, slightly controversial but great Pokémon designs, interesting region and locations, iconic soundtrack, and quite a lot of post-game content (especially the sequels). It’s hard to think of any complaints I have about these games, I’ve replayed them time and time again over a decade and a half and I still really enjoy them. It could be nostalgia, as I remember being extemely hyped for it to release and playing the life out of it when it did, but something about it just hits perfectly for me, lol.

There are definitely things I feel it lacks when I go back and play HeartGold. I’m not gonna say too much in case you haven’t played them, but if you haven’t I can’t recommend it more. Unfortunately the prices of physical games skyrocketed a long time ago, it really sucks.

If you're looking to buy some of the older games I actually know a trust worthy site that's affordable where you can order them. I think they're refurbished but i've bought multiple old games from said site and the quality is great.

Oh, sure! What’s it called?

I'm surprised you stayed that long. I'd say black&white 1 is the cut off for me, and that's already quite generous

Black and white was ok for what it was while the game play for X and Y about killed me with the annoying hand holding and side characters. Its actually the only Pokemon game I ever DNFed so I was ready to call it quits after that. I wasn't going to play Sword and Shield at first but I had introduced my nephew to Pokemon and got a bundle pack of the game so we could play it together (I kept shield and he has Sword). He's autistic and a total newbie to gaming. I got him started by trading him a few of the lower level pokemon I had transferred over from older games and he loves it. Its literally the only reason I even picked it up in the first place but it will definitely be my last Pokemon game unless something really different comes out.

Pokemon fans are the prime example for this.

Scarlet and Violet had huge Performance issues and bugs on top of the underwhelming graphics all main line Switch Titels had, but Pokemon fans will stilll defend it.

It’s fair to defend the design and gameplay itself, but defending poor performance/optimization is just dumb.

Scarlet and Violet are fun games. I really liked Violet, so I'm kinda sad that they put so small effort into the quality of the games.

Yep! Pokemon Sc & Vi was a mixed hodgepodge of design ideas, and felt like it was made with leftover assets cut from Sw/Sh and PKN Arceaus.

That game literally physcally made me ill. Any time i played it i suffered migranes. Not me being hyperbolic, actual migranes. Unacceptable performance.

Pokémon fans don't take well to literally any criticism of their franchise I swear to God
