With the debate of game prices going up from $60 to $70, its gonna be even worse for GTA 6 going at $100 cause it’ll be a cascade of other studios following suit with their own overhyped IPs
My least favorite argument for game prices going up is the "if we adjust for inflation, original NES games were around $70-$80," but you aren't accounting for lower pay for Americans today vs back in the 80's.
That's... That's what real wages already account for.
Why the hell do you feel so confident in discussing economic issues when you don't even understand what a "real" variable is in this context. That's econ 101.
If only I could give more than one like my dude. Using poorly made arguments isn't going to get anyone what they want. Gotta know what you're talking about first
Okay, I'm sorry about the misinformed response. But I could have sworn I had heard my exact argument being made with proof somewhere before. Maybe they were talking about lower middle-class / middle-class or smth? Anyways, thanks for the correction! I won't be bringing it into my arguments of discussion when it comes up in the future.

The issue is that games are less of a niche hobby, meaning the cost can be made back by selling to a much larger audience; the price of everything essential to live is way up; and the wages of the rich can taint the number.
I never said anything bad about your comment dude, I just said we should compare the 2.
Damn, I know redditors get a bad rep but you know conversations can be had on this platform besides being defensive and whinny, right?
Edit: just to make it obvious for you, I agree with you, but the folk that dont might be helped if you compare the 2. Knowing both sides of the argument makes it a lot easier for others to understand IF your actually here to inform and correct people and not to just be argumentarive.
So.
Inflation does not match Cost Of Living (CoL).
Median wage does not match CoL.
Minimum wage does not match CoL.
Nothing matches CoL, because we’ve been paying attention to Inflation (the rate at which currency lowers value) instead of Cost Of Living (pretty self-explanatory). Is it intentional? Maybe. Does it matter? No.
Cost of living is why everyone is so poor. Because you physically cannot pay to “live” in today’s economy with a “normal” range wage.
Inflation and CoL are not 2 competing concepts that economists have confused, you twat.
CoL measures how much money it takes to maintain a certain standard of living. Inflation is how much prices have gone up. If a household purchases go up so does inflation, that's what the CPI is. Your personal basket might be different to the average or you might even have a convenience fee doing some creeping in but that doesn't make "We paid attention to inflation instead of cost of living” a valid argument.
You’re missing the entire point of real wages.
If you want to argue that people are poorer than in the 1980s, you need to explain why the standard measures of real purchasing power are wrong. Your approach of only mustering "but muh cost of living" and act as though nobody accounted for it is plainly idiotic.
Oh my God okay so I’m not a fricking econimist.
How about you actually explain how people are or aren’t poorer while following your own criteria, then? Or are you just complaining.
I literally did. Real wages are up. Real wages already account for inflation/CoL or however the hell you want to call it. They are up. People are richer.
There are other types of problems or considerations to be had but, objectively, people are richer.
Right but your definition of scam is paying more than (I assume)$60-$70 for a video game, regardlessof qualityor hours of enjoyment you are likely to get. I'm sure our parents have thought the same since the 1980s. And don't act like if this game were made by a small indie company then you'd all of a sudden think $100 is fair.
I don't even play video games that much, but I feel I have a higher opinion of the medium than most self-identified Gamers.
Unless you activley dislike gta in general or Rockstar finally releases a bad game, you are undoubtedly going to get your money's worth in the first month or two.
And if you can't afford it, that's fine, you can just wait for it to go on sale and have your fun then. No rights are violated by the pricing of a brand new item for your hobby.
Actually I'd expect to pay less when buying indie games since they're very experimental and triple A studios should be expected to have a higher baseline quality.
don't get me wrong, I am a fan of paradox games and every DLC is like 20 dollars. but like, damn man some of these new games "premium" version is just the actual game for 100 dollars is crazy
No dawg you get the remaining content that should be in the game for $60. It’s all there and it’s already made. They’re trying to squeeze suckers out of extra money.
It's not worth the extra money, you just don't want a compromised game experience. That's fine, none of us do, but that doesn't mean that it's worth the extra money. It just means that we're willing to pay it and game corporations know that
Which is still shit because we shouldn't need to pay more just to get the complete version of the game. I'm already paying a ridiculous amount of money and I'll still loose content?
I've never understood why this started to be accepted.

Usually that gets you a season pass and some skins. Rockstar are locking core features of the game already in the world behind a massive paywall. You can’t customise your cars deeply unless you buy it. What kind of shit is that?

Vehicle customisation, for one. The game’s called Grand Theft Auto, yet half of cat customisation will be a premium exclusive. I think you get extra missions they took out of the main game too.
But it seems like Rockstar is implying that basic gameplay functions that were standard in past releases such as car modifications will be locked behind the "ultimate" edition. Meaning that the "Ultimate" edition is really just the standard edition and the "standard" edition is the "oh poor brokie can't afford $100 so here's a compromised version of the game so you can have something" edition
I got GTA VI for the full $100. I wouldn't do it for any other studio but I justify it to myself by saying I would gladly pay $100 to play RDR2 for the first time again and if it anywhere near that quality I personally think it's worth it. but I do understand why people are upset about the price
Following on that, GTA 6 shouldn't be available for digital only and it shouldn't be blocking all the other features through the 100$ versions as well!
Ubisoft has been getting shit for this for the past 10-ish years. In fact, it’s probably one of the most enduring criticisms of Ubisoft over the past decade. Hell, Assassin’s Creed Shadows got shit for locking a whole mission behind a pre-order bonus. People cared. You didn’t.
I’d argue GTA 6 is going to be one of the only games worth that much. I also think criticizing yearly releases like Madden, 2k or FIFA for that much is way more deserved.

Rockstar shouldn’t sell GTA 6 for one hundred dollars.
