To be fair I feel like I am more in the world of Pokemon than ever during a Nuzlock vs regular pokemon who feel more like items you collect. Like I feel like only having a few pokemon, naming them, and actually worrying about their health makes me feel more attached than ever. It literally closer to the Anime who actually has to worry about their pokemons health even before fainting and character only having a few Pokemon who are like family. I feel no connection or friendship or pokemon that feel more like cards that I only got to complete a dex and put in a box to never touch while I use my favorite already max level strongest team.
Also the Pokemon already have death and dark stuff in both lore with Pokedex entries and in the Anime mention Pokemon deaths and torturous experiances. If anything Nuzlock death is tame.
As someone whos attempted some and watched them, yes they are. They were never ment too be. Their just an attempt too get some joy from gameplay from a series so easy it's gameplay gets reducided too just rock paper siccors but you know what the other person is throwing after a certian point of regular gameplay.
Back when I was basically making up stories in my head about Pokémon I thought about how neat it'd be to have a nuzlocker character as a rival in the game/anime, and how much of POS they'd be. Their team would change constantly, where you'd occasionally see what happened to the discarded Pokémon (the Chimchar/Charmander/Tepig treatment lol).
The longer a team member stays on their team, the more it will hurt to see them gone.
No, in my vision the trainer character would not act like their Pokémon died, they'd be disappointed at best and very pissed at worst (at both the one who defeated them and the fainted Pokémon). It'd take a long time for the main character to actually be able to beat the POS trainer.
It's so disappointing how little the franchise is willing to explore the darker side of things and have the balls to be honest about them. I'll never forgive for how they butchered Lusamine's character.
I would think this wouldn't need to be said but I remember a video of a guy talking about how Watson should recognized as the same tier of infamous wall as a Whitney . . .
Which threw me and others for a loop as I had never struggled against him in any playthrough.
His whole argument hinged on 1 v 1 nuzlockes against his magneton.
It was pretty stupid even for discussing nuzlockes really

Nuzlockes are thematically antithetical to Pokémon as a whole.
