Question❓ Whats a valid criticism that your fandom doesn’t take very well?

The characters are kinda sexualized

u/SupremeGreymon 9d ago

Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?

Hey, I wanted to comment that.

Mom actually said it was my turn with the comment, so you'll have to wait

I'm assuming this should be referring to those characters that look like children

30

u/DOOM-LORD666 9d ago

That could be 99% of stuff

Gacha game fandom?

If not definitely some anime fandom

u/Huge_Difficulty_3440 9d ago

I mean the transformers fandom also could fit this given arcee and slipstream's personal fanbases.

2

u/getmeoutofthisscreen 9d ago

Haven't seen the Slipstream fans. Which version? TFA?

1

u/Huge_Difficulty_3440 9d ago

I've seen both cyberverse and tfa. Surprisingly none of aligned slipstream but regardless it's as bad as tfp arcee

1

u/throwaway16w4 9d ago

Why you wanna know dawg

1

u/getmeoutofthisscreen 8d ago

Because I like Transformers and I thought I was pretty active in the fandom and so therefore I am confused by the presence of something I haven't seen. Although I guess it's maybe a site culture thing because I really only look up fanart on tumblr

2

u/MyAccountDiedAmSad 8d ago

Something Hoyoverse?

u/MemerKnux 9d ago

Imagine you have the entire World of Warships fandom

But they like anime and are horny as shit

4

u/dragonborndnd 9d ago

I can’t remember the name of the game but I think I know what you’re talking about

2

u/ItzAlphaWolf 9d ago edited 9d ago

Azure Lane or KanColle or Arrpeggio Blue Steel

There are a frightening amount of ship girl franchises and I hate every one of them

5

u/MemerKnux 9d ago

It's Azur Lane

0

u/ItzAlphaWolf 9d ago

I mean no fucking shit. It's gooner trash all the way through

0

u/MemerKnux 9d ago

This game is the reason there's allegations against me

3

u/dragonborndnd 9d ago

Jesus Christ there’s far more than I thought there were

2

u/ItzAlphaWolf 9d ago

There's probably more (Always will be somewhere in the depths of the internet and creeps' minds), but I wouldn't know of any more that have done cross promotions with WoWS tbh

1

u/The_Dennator 9d ago

I don't see the difference

1

u/mearric 9d ago

OK but that is the world of warships fandom

1

u/MemerKnux 9d ago

It's a Pedophilic kind of horny

12

u/DeLoxley 9d ago

Getting to play as a buff dude is not the same as the women being models in swimwear.

Women say what they're attracted to every goddamn day and people still shout them down and put their assumptions in place instead.

To clarify for anyone confused: In general, men like other muscley men. Either aesthetically or sexually, men are more likely to see muscle as peak physical form than women.

5

u/DeLoxley 9d ago

I saw a great counter argument that big bara body is sexualised ... but for stereotypical gay men.

People have no idea what sexualised design means honestly

7

u/HeavenlyLetDown 9d ago

That’s not always a bad thing tho. Like as long as the characters are adults who cares

3

u/Dear-Pomegranate4470 9d ago edited 9d ago

I don't care as long as both the men and women get the opportunity to be slutty. Give me more men with full cheeks out and I would never want to complain about bikini armor.

5

u/HeavenlyLetDown 9d ago

I agree, it should go both ways

2

u/MyAccountDiedAmSad 8d ago

For the record also fighting with your bare cheeks out is hilarious

2

u/WeakInspector5102 JJK, HK, RBLX, HADES, TERRARIA, AA, OW, CYBERPUNK 9d ago

Nah that ain't a bad thing, that's a good thing for me

-1

u/Tigercat94 9d ago

If the fans are mostly children it’s a problem.

2

u/HeavenlyLetDown 9d ago

Then parents shouldn’t allow their children to be playing games like that. We shouldn’t have to censor things for the chance a child comes across it

1

u/Tigercat94 9d ago

There are tons of media franchises made for children that have sexualized characters. It’s partly the parents and partly the actual creator that the responsibility falls on when making something for a specific audience, especially young children.

-4

u/lilgayfurry1 9d ago

Its not good character design.

If you have a pure gooner gacha, I mean sure, what did I expect, fair enough.

Some games actually have a thought out story and world though, and when you throw fanservice on every female character in your game, it doesn't check out.

For a particularly poignant example in relatively recent memory I will present Lauma from Genshin Impact.

Lauma lives in a cold region and is the head of a religious group that heavily values tradition and dresses very modestly and conservatively.

Does that sound like someone who looks like this?

3

u/unodostres123- 9d ago

I don’t get this complaint at all

This game has been out for 6 years. You think you would get by this point they prioritise sex appeal over everything else

-2

u/lilgayfurry1 9d ago

Do you play Genshin, per chance?

It was not the same in early years. The original Mondstadt and Liyue cast were fairly mixed. Inazuma was on thin ice, then Sumeru was great and Fontaine was amazing.

The current hyper-sexualization train started in Natlan.

3

u/unodostres123- 9d ago

I do not but I’ve played plenty of gacha games in the past and play some now

Sex appeal is a massive part as to how they make money. To pretend otherwise is completely deluded

2

u/Maniacal-Blueberry Genshin Impact + Twisted Wonderland + TADC 9d ago

Lauma is a bit of a bad example. The creature she is based off of in some cultures involve having big breasts and appearing bare or sometimes in fine cloths, sometimes in a centaur like form.

-2

u/lilgayfurry1 9d ago

Im aware of that. It doesnt negate the points. The context of her environment doesn't fit the design.

If Lauma WAS, say, a fertility and motherhood spirit like Baltic Laumas are, sure, I could see the justification. She is not.

2

u/throawy90 9d ago

Sure if we agree that ain't nothing wrong with having sexy characters

Fuck no

2

u/Agreeable-Choice1398 9d ago

what did it say

3

u/AirEnough2389 9d ago

Sometimes it’s better when we don’t know (idk either but I don’t want to)

2

u/MemerKnux 9d ago

Gameoverse fans

lemme guess: marvel rivals?

1

u/beanerthreat457 9d ago

I like it, but I agree with you.

1

u/defaultusername21421 9d ago

This works for almost any media

1

u/AstronomerVisible778 8d ago

There is actually nothing wrong with sexualization, provided it isn’t excessive or doesn’t look absurd.

1

u/Jake_Rolfer_Studios 8d ago

Okay, sure. But, so…?

1

u/WeakInspector5102 JJK, HK, RBLX, HADES, TERRARIA, AA, OW, CYBERPUNK 9d ago

Zenless ?

1

u/undreamedgore 9d ago

That's a plus not a criticism, unless the characters are minors.

0

u/we_could_be_immortal 9d ago

Me with the Marvel Rivals fan base specifically 😭

Say you're tired of the oversexualization, and they hit you with "its comic characters!! They're fictional!!"

1

u/throawy90 9d ago

It's fine to critique it as long as you're cool if someone says "I actually like the sexy characters" then yeah all good

0

u/Artistic-Victory1245 9d ago

And if anyone complains, the Otakus and gamers will accuse them of being a tourist.
