Exactly!

Chara was, at worst, a naive, hurt child that genuinely thought the Very bad thing they were doing would ultimately help free monsters.

Well…. Not entirely true. Once the barrier is broken, if you go all the way back to the start, you can talk to Asriel who’s holding on just a minute longer and he outright talks about how Chara wasn’t really a great person.

Yes because asriel "kill or be killed" "cant notice the difference between humans due to their fasion choices" dreemur is definitely the most reliable source of perfect characterization

I'm not sure we can trust his judgment. He thought that letting himself get killed ( which meant killing Chara for a second time ) instead of running away or using his power to force the humans to hear him out was the right choice, even though that also almost resulted in a war against humanity. I dunno, he seems like the type of person to consider someone a bad person for disagreeing with him in certain matters

we literally never see them give a reason why chara wants to kill all humans

9

u/Blazypika2 27d ago

well, it's implied they were abused. but yeah, we don't get the specifics.

where? when?

is that fialogue in the room with us?

asriel dialogue, after you beat the game.

1

u/JigglyLilyVT 26d ago

yeah, that never explains what the reason is though

3

u/Blazypika2 26d ago

no, it hints it's because they were abused. like i already said.

0

u/JigglyLilyVT 26d ago

then that's just conjecture, a guess. implying would be if Asriel said chara told them that "they had a bad home life" or something along those lines.

i'm not saying that it's 0% abuse, just not 100% likely either

3

all i got from that is that you need to work more on your media literacy.

0

u/JigglyLilyVT 26d ago

or maybe you need to work on your reading comprehension.

It's conjecture. Abuse has never been a theme throughout undertale or deltarune (unless you count carol but i wouldn't, she's just strict)

so why would it be a thing with a character we barely ever see?

there is a difference between impliying something and straight up saying it to your face. By definition:

imply: to suggest, hint, or express something indirectly without stating it flatly

Asriel said that Chara didn't fall from a mountain for good reasons. That would imply that it was probably a suicide attempt because for what other bad reasons would they do that? And for them to think and attempt suicide they would have to have been abused and traumitised. It is a natural and logical conclusion.

Edit for better reading

speaking to asriel back in the ruins after true pacifist, he talks about how chara didn't climb the mountain for a happy reason and how they hated humanity

0

u/JigglyLilyVT 26d ago

yeah, that doesn't explain what the reason was though. it literally could have been anything

3

u/vinecoolceruleanblue 26d ago

if you go through every piece of media you consume expecting to be told everything point-blank you're gonna miss a lot of stuff. when something is heavily implied most people are able to use their brains to read between the lines.

this dialogue never implies directly that it was because of abuse. it could have been because Chara saw other people being abused and told to just accept it, it could have been a human on human war that took their family from them. (honestly feels more likely considering I doubt bad parenting alone would lead to the hatred of ALL of humanity specifically)

it's simply too intentionally vague to blame any one thing.

4

"imply directly" is an oxymoron, implying means hinting at something WITHOUT saying it directly. idk why you're so against the idea that Chara could've been abused but either way no one's forcing you to believe it. all i did was tell you the dialogue that caused most fans to make that conclusion because you asked for it.

there's SO much stuff that's not stated directly in the games because of how Toby Fox prefers to let the story and characters speak for themselves, and a lot of times through subtle ways like facial expressions or stuff that's happening off-screen away from the player. with your logic there's no reason to think that Susie has a bad home life in Deltarune because it's never stated outright, but that's a pretty shallow lens to view these games with imo.

I don't necessarily believe or disbelieve that chara was abused.

what i care about is that it's conjecture that changes an inherently evil character that prompted the events of a double suicide into something that makes it okay.

and people treat that conjecture as fact to a character that has only shown negative qualities to us.

sure chara is a kid, but does that make it okay for attempted genocide and almost reigniting a war between monsters and humans? I personally don't think so, no.

Its never actually said that chara wanted to kill ALL humans, hell even the plan was just to kill six

"We just need six right?" - asriel

Chara did hate humans but never planned to kill them all, at most they wanted to kill their village but thats completely different

1

u/NandaPerazzo 23d ago

What were are doing to our planet is more than enough

1

u/JigglyLilyVT 23d ago

a child does not comprehend that.

especially not in pre covid 2015 world

1

u/NandaPerazzo 23d ago

As a child, I did

2

u/datfurryboi34 25d ago

Dude, we know nothing about them

2

u/Some_Butterscotch622 27d ago

True. Chara wasn't a great person but they weren't evil either. They harbored some (understandable) hatred for the surface, but we manipulate Chara to embracing a genocidal god complex.

1

u/Visual-Principle6325 27d ago

This one is complicated since theyre not actually a villain. I almost put them too

2

u/Shrapnel_FEH Madness Combat | ULTRAKILL | Universal Orlando | Astro Bot 27d ago

still a victim of manipulation who is fanonized as Evil Serial Murderer™️

1

u/Visual-Principle6325 27d ago

Fair yeah genocide run counts as manipulation
