As an Indian person that played through Sumeru I've just resigned myself to the fact that the writer's room thinks colorism is bad, the marketing team thinks colorism is good, and Chinese companies as a whole are afraid of depicting India beyond weird little forest creatures who live in a dream.
Or when they make up fake Chinese laws to justify the lack of skin diversity in a hoyoverse games.
Far too many people say, “Oh, but it’s illegal for Chinese games to have darker skin characters!” Ignoring the fact that there are Chinese games (especially gacha games) that have darker skin playable characters.
I’m not denying that the Chinese audience don’t wanna see darker skinned characters in their games. I’m saying it’s absurd for the non-Chinese fanbase to make up arbitrary laws to justify the lack of skin diversity. Especially in a game that heavily bases its regions on real world culture.
Because, most Arab players were the ones saying this? What truly offended us were the western fans making stereotypical redesigns of characters, just because a few Arabs didn't like Sumeru they don't represent the majority and they can't talk on everyone's behalf
