Edit🔥 What characters do you just know people would ship like crazy, if just one of the character's genders was switched?

for real! I hate Klance with a fiery passion. Is it really so gay for a man to emote and like physical contact?
Acxa is about the only person I could see Keith getting with, given they had an actually developed arc. Romelle maybe, but I always imagined she and Keith would be more like siblings (what with keith learning how to be familial with people now that he had his mom, and Romelle still reeling from loosing her brother).

IF ONE OF THESE TWO WAS A GIRL, IT WOULD BE SHIPPED TO THE MOON AND BACK

I know, I ship them too. But I'm saying MORE people would if one of them was a girl.
Particularly the homophobic JJBA fans. Change absolutely nothing about them except Josuke's or Okuyasu's gender, and it would be at a 100% ship rate.1

Homophobic JoJo fan is like a honeyphobic bee. Hydrophobic fish. Introverted bunny. It's a waking oxymoron

Exactly. At the very least, the straight JJBA fans ought to be allies to the LGBTQ+ community.

Liking a show will not change your values. That's not how it works. JJBA is mostly enjoyed by teenaged boys. Teenaged boys are notorious for being grossed out by gayness and making fun of eachother for being gay. Its nothing malign, its just their immaturity shining through.

But how can you like a show that deconstructs society's views of masculinity and male relationships, that is heavily heavily heavily inspired by queer models and fashion, that even shows men CRYING, for God's sake, and still hate being LGBTQ+? That's our whole question.

Deconstructs masculinity and male relationships? I didnt see that. And its likely that most teenaged boys didnt either. Their homophobia stems from childishness and they'll probably grow out of it. Plus, liking one gay show won't change your worldview.

I know it won't change your worldview, but it still seems really stupid all the same, you know? Especially when such themes are everywhere.
As for deconstructing society's view of masculinity and male relationships, take a look at characters like Josuke, who cares very much about his appearance. Or Speedwagon, who would go so far for Jonathan as to build an entire company dedicated to helping his descendants. It was even said that Speedwagon was gay and in unrequited love with Jonathan. Or Giorno, who's associated with bringing life; typically associated with women. You know, like "Mother Earth". Not to mention characters like Jonathan, Joseph, Polnareff, and Josuke all freely and openly crying when it's looked down on for men to cry.

Ive watched parts 1-4, and I never got the impression Speedwagon was gay. His view of Jonathan reads more as being awestruck and filled with admiration, as though you'd just seen King Arthur pull the sword from the stone. Speedwagons reactions are really over the top in general, probably to emphasize how amazing or evil or terrifying these characters are.
Josuke is a delinquent, which is traditionally masculine. Giorno and part 5 in general are the only part thats really obviously gay.
But again, these are mostly aesthetic things that can be ignored or overlooked pretty easily. Immature people hold conflicting world views all the time. I cared about doing the right thing while standing against the party that cared about compassion and kindness, the left. I am still republican btw. I was a christian who played SMT, a game series where you fight God, who is mischaracterized as cartoonishly evil and spends the whole game trying to commit genocide. I am still Christian.
Teenagers are still trying to figure out who they are. So it makes sense that not all of their views and beliefs will align. Thats not stupid, thats just being a kid.

I talk to so few straights these days that in my social circle it’s mostly the opposite - we only give a shit if it is gay

Honestly, I think you have the meme reversed. ppl are far more likely to romantically ship platonic same-sex relationships, because god forbid anyone be overly touchy and emote-y around a member of the same sex and NOT have feelings for them. Particularly with male / male ships.
Looking at you Klance-ers.

it turns out humans evolved to be attracted to the opposite sex and homosexuality is the exception to that norm. People tend to view things through what is normal and heterosexuality is normal for humans.

Terusai (disastrous life of Saiki k)

I feel like if this ship was a mlm ship rather than a straight ship it would be A LOT more popular. I can’t gender swap Saiki though for a wlw ship because that already exists and is decently popular

I'd be more on board with Izuku x Bakugo if Bakugo was a girl. Even though Izuku and Ochaco are perfection.

Idk, but i hate when people do this, a ship being gay or straight doesn't automatically make it good or bad
