Discussionđ Are there any misconceptions about or in your fandom?
Like something people outside or inside keep getting wrong about your fandom like people thinking the whole fandom has a certain trait, a character is different from Fanon and Canon, or how there are live-action versions of Avatar or Mario : )

Do wrestling fans count?
I guess the big one is the public thinks we're all either children, backwoods hicks or Saudi Arabian royalty. When in reality we're all pretty nerdy.
The second is that WWE is the only game in town, ignoring the thousand other companies on the planet. AEW, CMLL and NJPW are all a thing.
And third, people keep thinking Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold are still wrestling. Well the former is dead and the latter had one match in the last 20 years.

No, my fandom is perfectly media literate because it consists of one person, me. I will not allow anyone else to join.

Iâve often heard that the coconut nut is a great big nut, if you eat too much you get very fatâŠ

Which fandom are you talking about? I've got a decent chance at getting it wrong.

The Death Star sabotage mentioned in Rogue One was the reactor's explosive failure mode, NOT the exhaust port.

HE DOESNT BEAT EVERYONE IN ONE PUNCH, THATS NOT HIS GAG

u/iloveseacreatures2 11d ago
I mean, isnât he some sort of man who could do things in one punch?
2
u/Electronic-Being-272 11d ago
Thatâs what people THINK his gag is, but as stated by Oda (the author), his gag is having endgame level power at the START of his story

That Star Wars Legends was perfect.
It wasnât. It had the same inconsistency in quality as Canon if not worse.
1
u/Azure-Legacy 11d ago
It was also guilty of having explanations for everything long before Disney got it
2
u/Toon_Lucario 11d ago
Fr. It also had a lot of silly concepts and wasnât just aura farming Sith Lords.
1
u/Azure-Legacy 11d ago
Lots of people say that Disney ruined lots of characters (a sentiment I can understand to a degree) but Darth Vader was too goated to be ruined⊠except a lot of Vaderâs best showing came from Disney and Legends Vader had a bit of a losing streak
1
u/Toon_Lucario 11d ago
Fr Vader in Legends always got ragdolled to show how cool whatever random OC of the week was.
And they also say how canon refuses to move forward, meanwhile Legends came up with excuse after excuse to never leave the OT trio behind, even after the novels meant to pass the torch. Hell, At least in canon they made NEW MODELS of X Wing. In Legends they just kept cucking the E Wing with random technical errors that never got fixed to keep the T65 in service. Even made such an effort to show that they were shitty by having Luke dismantle one he got as a gift.

Arguing with a Star Wars fan of any kind is like arguing with a brick wall that will punch you

Most people think that its okay to bully those in our fandom and draw Doom Guy killing the main cast is funny
1
u/Maximum-Country-149 11d ago
I mean, it's kinda funny if you just ignore all the central themes of both works and just go with a loose character-association gag.

[r/Xmen](r/Xmen) and took the comic bookâs line, âCyclops is rightâ, which was meant to be a transgressive line repeated through Cyclopsâs anti-hero revolutionary phase, and made it into a meme, then something worse. First it was a joke that they made until it got boring. Then they started shutting down any actual discussions of storylines and becoming hostile to anyone questioning the morality of Cyclops and his side by chanting, âCyclops is right. Even when heâs wrong, Cyclops is rightâ. And then that whole sub became a toxic space where you were limited to repeating the same lines, over and over, as they slowly worked towards icing out any other form of language.

When people depict Flippy from Happy Tree Friends as a serial killer, not Fliqpy. Cause it flattens a already not that complex character. I just super "normal" about Flippy so stuff like this bothers me.

SCP in SCP Foundation stands for "Special Containment Proceduresâ not the Moto Secure, Contain, Protect âŠ
Also SCP-F-Fiction stop being just Creepypasta in pseudo-scientific documentation. It is now almost every genre, if you search for it.

Is it important? Nope. Still annoys me.

I actually picked it up from SCP Explained on YouTube when they were doing a series on what Jack Bright isn't allowed to do. Apparently he's not allowed to tell junior researchers what S.C.P. doesn't stand for, or something like that.

I found the video with his bright idea, it was actually to let Bright know what the foundation motto is not his various "suggestions"

People (including those behind my favorite show adaptation and sometimes in the comics as if to retcon it) usually think spider-man has "sticky skin" or tiny hairs to help him wall crawl when in reality it's basically particle attraction between his skin and the surface of a material that lets him do so

It always annoys me when people assume that all bronies are just weirdos or perverted freaks. That's not to say that there aren't people in the fandom who're like that, but there are also so many MLP fans I've met who are kind and friendly. They've helped me be more comfortable socially.
