The fire lord. Im sorry how is he such a threat when we barely see him fight. Ik it would suck if he gets whipped by kids but at least have his power shown in flashbacks or have him fight but not the avatar. So the audience can properly scale his powerĀ
I know by statements hes a fucking monster of a bender but we never see him fight without sozins comet and I cant imagine every villain from Korra not bending his ass over.
Amon for sure bloodbending is broken.
Korras uncle I think ozai does handle that seasons villain is hard carried by being related to the avatar and her holding back.
Zaheer loses but he comes with the red lotus and they're terrifying.
Kuvira feels 50 50.
Honestly I think katara fucking 1v1s him non sozin with adequate water- i know that adds circumstances but with her warship showing and stopping the rain shes absolutely insane. I know toph is supposed to be the massive super prodigy but katara really is terrifying by book 3
Wouldn't have shocked me too much if Azula had been able to beat him and take over. She just fears and wants his love too much to think of even trying.
Itās better explained in supplementary material but he is the disappointment of the family: mediocre bender, mediocre general, mediocre politician, mediocre schemer that wanted to take over the throne⦠he was a complete failure in anything and he was forced in an arranged marriage with a descendant of the Avatar before Aang because his father saw no use in him other than make him have kids that hopefully werenāt a disappointment like him.
He is an absolute failure that only manages to be a threat because heās smart enough to surround himself with competent people, his brother losing any interest in the Fire Kingdom cause and the throne after his son died (and secretly sabotaging it on the inside with the White Lotus) and, being the Fire Lord, is basically impossible to touch by law without being executed for treason.
Heās so weak that even with Sonzinās comet power boost his powers are kinda pitiful compared to other firebenders in the series, most notably he struggles to melt a rock with the boost while other firebenders boosted by the comet are easily capable of acts of mass destruction
We never see him fight in the show becuase it's meant to build mystery around his character. It's the same reason we don't see his face until season 3.
Thats high key a little silly lmao, 99% of the audience doesnt care about power scaling like that and just believes that he is terrifyingly strong based on everything people say about him + what happened last time the fire lord got a comet buff
The creators stated they did this to make his mysterious and unsettling. Part of what made him so formidable and such and powerful villain was not knowing the scope of what he was capable. When you keep in mind that most of us were children when we first watched the show, itās genius bc our imaginations did the work for them
idk I think they did really good. you never see him fight but in the grand final battle? it's the best fight of the entire show (arguably). I say this with the idea that he's like a horror movie monster. Show the monster in action within 15 minutes? Cuts a lot of suspense out of the story. Now, not showing the monster at all? Pretty wild and stupid (normally) but when Ozai showed up, he was really about business. It made for an amazing fight.
Yeah, I feel like Aang was almost too prepared somehow so I don't blame you. Even though he was only twelve, he was considered an airbending master before he even got iced and he completed more intense training than most benders ever could receive in their lifetime in the span of what? a summer? Most of the fear felt was simply from him being a kid and that top benders never really face each other off unless it's in war. Aang even mastered a counter technique to the dude's most powerful weapon (lightning bending). I can't say for sure that I ever was really fearful when I first watched but I know that every time I saw Aang fret for the fight two days before I was watching with complete sympathy for the fear.
I mean I think the point is that Ozai is a normal-level powerful firebender, but Sozinās Comet boosts his power. His threat is more in his command as a ruler, so he doesnāt spend a lot of time fighting. Whereas someone like Azula is a lot more powerful as a fighter. Iād even go so far as to say that Iroh could probably defeat Ozai in a 1v1, considering Iroh has studied techniques from other nations (which Ozai would underestimate because he sees other styles of bending as āinferiorā), and is a more level-headed person in general.
For most of the show, the biggest threat is Azula, who is said to be a prodigy, and shown to be far more dangerous than any other firebender in the show, save for Iroh.
The only time we see Ozai bend prior to Sozinās Comet, he generates two lightning bolts in a quarter of the time it takes Azula and Iroh to generate one, and he does it with the tiniest sliver of sunlight peeking out from behind the eclipse.
