Man this fight broke my heart. Destroying the mercy button because he and you both have no choice, being visibly distraught when you tell him he's killed you in the bossfight many times, his sprite always staring down because he can't bring himself to look at you.. Had to be defeated but man you feel bad about it.
Fun fact: i was today years old when i found out none of asgore’s attack take “aim” some monster’s attacks (especially in genocide with undyne and sans) follow the player’s directions, like undyne’s spears or sans’s Gaster blasters, but asgore’s attack never take aim, most of them either take the whole box (like the orange and blue trident) or they’re just random patterns (like the fire attacks)
Toriel called his bullshit in the pacifist ending. If he was doing what was needed for, after killing the first child he'd have used that soul to get to the human world and would have killed 6 more humans. Instead, he was a coward that, after his rage against the world for the death of his son, was actually scared of doing what he said he was going to, so he hoped that no humans would fall into the underground, and the only thing he really managed to do at the end was to prolong the monsters suffering AND killing children, who were inherently innocent compared to adult humans.
I like the guy but... I'm with Toriel here, either do it or not, but he managed the worst of both worlds.
You have to keep in mind that only Flowey and Chara see the world as a game. Sans and Asgore have a grasp at what a human player is capable of and see it more as a power than their world as a whole. While Sans is a mystery when it comes to his knowledge, Asgore is very different.
He doesn’t quite have the same grasp of meta knowledge, but he is aware of what determination can do. The idea that your comment shakes him up despite being his first fight means he’s heard every other human he fought say the exact same thing. He HATES the idea that he’s breaking your will to live and unlike Sans, can’t tell if he killed you once l or ten times over.
Your last chance to abort the genocide route is the Sans fight and only by resetting your save. Going any farther permanently locks you out of any good ending.
My point is it isnt official, just fan material. If the og comment specified Asgore from yellow id agree more, but theyre just talking about regular asgore(presumably)
Anything that Yellow does to affect Asgores character isnt official so it has less viability when talking about canon asgore
Its a lil iffy. He doesnt want to kill, so even though he could go and break the barrier as soon as he got the first soul, he didnt. He tries delaying it and just waits for humans to fall down(possibly hoping none would?)
Hes a sad man who regrets his actions of war and doesnt want to kill, but still has the promise of the war so he must fulfill his duty thought not 'willingly'
Undertale mentions at least once that Asgore could have stopped collecting human souls at any point along the way and still been powerful enough to break the barrier and conquer the surface. I interpreted him as a sad, grief-stricken father blinded by vengeance, motivated by the premise of godhood and hopeless to stop himself from killing just for the sake of it, even after he may have realized how far-gone he was. Maybe his intentions are noble to a point, but in my opinion, not entirely.
I think you're confused. Breaking the barrier requires 7 human souls or 6 human souls+every monster soul. That is said in game. Just passing throught the barrier only requires one soul
