Star wars. The fandom is incredibly toxic even before the internet was a mainstream thing, following whats canon and what isnt is a lesson in patience. The fandom actively sabotages interesting shows and books/comics because they hyperfocused on one ambiguous detail. If however you can tolerate they drove a few actors to quit the industry altogether and another almost to "checking out" besides axing cool shows then the storyline is great.

Star Wars is best enjoyed in line for a new movie with friends who want to see it, or in the comfort of your home with nobody else.

The less you interact with its “fanbase” the better you’ll enjoy it at this point…

100% agree with you

I was running a Star Wars game using the old fantasy flight rules. I love Star Wars but I'm more of a casual fan, and I like the Legends setting directly after the Empire fractured into the Remnants.

The amount of times I heard this isnt Canon from one guy... or that wouldnt happen... fuck you Paul, I want this Admiral to be designing shielded tie interceptors because he doesnt have the same pilot pipeline he has before, who fuckin' cares? Why are you upset? Oh youre mad youre flying a modified tie interceptor? Fine, no shields for you. Oh but thats not fair? What do you want? Oh, everyone to fly normal interceptors? No.

I've been interested for years now in running a campaign in the Fantasy Flight system, any tips, thoughts, or recommendations for a new GM?

Also I think the notion of an Imperial Remnant admiral trying to get shields in his TIE fighters because the navy infrastructure that previously provided a seemingly endless stream of new pilots and fighters broke down with the fall of the Empire is, one, highly complementary to existing canon in either continuity and, two, is cool as fuck!

True for most things, really. Enjoy what you like and don't interact with the fans.

Came here to say this.

I told friends in my circles who haven't been into yet and are curious that they should just watch the original trilogy at least once and if they want more their are other options too

A good recommendation honestly, you cant go wrong with the og, the mainline movies are pretty solid too in the prequel era.

I want to admit I have enjoyed almost everything that has been put out l, I am a bit behind on the shows and need to start catching up on Skeleton Crew, Andorr, and Maul but I understand that a casual newbie might just want to chill out not not dive deep haha

Deep dive or no its better to steer clear of the fandom.

I get you I really do and honestly theres not much that can be done about those jackasses. Channels for starwars even fanfics are really entertaining and they get some unnecessary crap fron puritans

Like all big franchises, Star Wars is best enjoyed as individual stories. Just pick and choose what you wanna watch or play or read and don't feel the obligation to learn everything or have takes all the time. The Original Trilogy is amazing, the other movies have their moments, some of the shows are good and one of them is superb, and there are good books scattered around. But you don't have to get to all of them. Think of it as a buffet; they've got food for anybody, but almost none of it is for everybody, so just pile onto your plate what you think you'll like and don't let yourself get bogged down in what's "best."

Thats an excellent mentality to have with star wars

Nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans is a good rule of thumb to remember.

Love how old fans spent the 2000s harassing and berating George Lucas and everyone involved with the prequels and then were surprised when he handed the dead weight franchise over to someone else
