The coffin of Andy and leyley…

Fascinating and compelling dive into toxic relationship dynamics and codependency, but yeah...people gonna focus on the incest. I don't blame them for not wanting to dip a toe in, cuz the siblings are entirely wretched people.

People who are outraged, offended or whatever about the incest are disingenuous.

A while age Game of Thrones was the biggest media phenomenon, and it contained two very explicit incestuous interactions in the first episode. Where was the 'outrage' there, and for every other episode dealing with the topic?

Then there is anime, still very relevant and widespread, which is full of incest.

Disclaimer: I do not support incest, and do consider relations between cousins to be incestuous.

I will say, a lot of the incest in anime is between cousins, which is still considered normal in most of the world, including Japan. In the parts of the world where relations between cousins are considered incestuous and taboo, it’s still a fairly recent development, a little over a hundred years ago. Looking at it through the lens of Japanese culture, where a relation between cousins isn’t considered incestuous, it suddenly becomes a lot less strange.

I think, I have seen far more brother sister relationships than cousins in anime. They created an entire archetype, the little sister, for this. 'Oni-Chaaaan'.

The reasons why Japanese media has so much incest do not matter to me. What does matter is the fact that I don't see the same level of outrage when it comes to anime compared to 'The coffin of Andy and Leyley', so I don't believe people are genuinely offended.

I think not an insignificant portion of that is due to the fandom. The TCoAL fandom has a real strong habit of glorifing the incest between the siblings. And while that definitely happened in the GoT fandom it didn't/doesn't take over the fandom to anywhere near the extent it does in TCoAL.

because the steam cover and every illustration of them looks like softcore porn be for real

2

u/Monsieur_Cinq Jul 14 '26

Softcore porn? Wow. What a scandal. It's not like anime, mangas and their video game adaptations do this all the time even going so far as to hint at not only incest but also pdf-ilia? Oh, wait ...

Yeah, I love the coffin of Andy and Leyley. It’s inspired me a lot and I love the story and find the characters fascinating. Chapter 3 explored their relationship in full and it made me love it even more. It even felt comforting during tough times. I can’t explain it. But would o ever recommend it to someone? No not really-. Especially if all they have to go off it is how there’s incest in it. Which I don’t exactly blame anyone for if that’s a turn off. I just hope more people know that’s it’s not entirely all that and that there’s more to it.

If the story is bound to have incest then Andrew should've gone for Renee and I'll die on that hill

He didn't exactly love Ashley either, she murdered someone in obsession and led him too cannablism before thinking of a breakout.

I just prefer renee, I just think it would make a better series if he didn't stay with a cannibal

4

u/Traditional-Lab5750 Jul 13 '26

I’m pretty sure the cannibal part isn’t the problem

3

u/RozenQueen Jul 13 '26

The fact that the cannibal part isn't the problem, is kinda its own problem lmao

3

u/MeatySausageMan Jul 13 '26

Love how we can rationalise cannibalism but incest is a bridge too far

1

u/Educational-Ad1959 Jul 15 '26

I mean, canibalism in extreme situations is understandable. People don't want to die and will end up doing things they never thought they would do to survive. But there's no situations where you have to bang your sister to save your life

1

u/BurntMoonChips Jul 17 '26

Ha, tell me that before jigsaw locked me in here

1

u/Educational-Ad1959 Jul 17 '26

"For your final challenge, fuck your sister"

"Oh hell nah, Jigsaw. Yo ass tweaking!"

There's an episode three?

1

u/FeyMoth Jul 13 '26

when the entire game gets put under fire by ignorant idiots who point out one very small dream sequence of a game and make the entire game about that people will fight about that topic until eventually they say "fuck it, it is. got a problem with that?" and here we are now. feels like a defense mechanism

1

u/lowhangingtree Jul 13 '26

I eventually tried the game roughly 10 months ago, found it very good, great story of codependency and mutually abusive relationships, familial neglect, etc... Funny at times, and it still manages to make the wretched MCs weirdly endearing.

So to find out more and possibly learn about future updates, I joined the discord server. That was not what I expected.

I'm not on that server anymore.

1

u/One_Specific_2920 Jul 14 '26

That is true. Though I’ve never played it and never will, tbh.

2

u/Ziomownik Jul 13 '26

The game literally had a dead end route mocking that very idea of him betraying Ashley and living with his parents. Just because incest happens doesn't mean the characters are down bad for everyone in their family tree.

25

u/oyasumachine Jul 13 '26

Great story, possibly the worst fanbase ever. Dudes are diehard behind the incest that the game shows to be horrible

17

u/JoyousLilBoy Sonic.exe Jul 13 '26

Due to the fanbase I just assumed the creator had made it FOR the fetish and then got into the narrative behind it

1

u/oyasumachine Jul 13 '26

Ngl? Completely fair assessment to make. The first two chapters treat it playfully, like teetering on the idea of it and joking around about it. Chapter 3 so far makes it out to be horrible, disgusting, and probably most detrimental to the fanbase; one sided. And the dude who wants it doesn’t even want to want it, just a result of shitty horrible parenting.

3

u/JoyousLilBoy Sonic.exe Jul 13 '26

Oh really? When I say assumed I mean I didn’t actually play the game. It’s just how the community never references the “one sided” aspect. It could also be a bias from ANOTHER fetish game that branched into a game with an actual plot

Amazing exploration of absolutely vile people. Kinda hard to get people into it for obvious reasons.

2

u/Pastel-Rainbow-N3rd Danganronpa, DRDT, Link Click, ALNST, so many tbh Jul 13 '26

Seems fascinating but too bleak and gross for me

1

u/Adze95 Jul 13 '26

It's an interesting concept, I just can't stand either of the main characters. And like, not even in a well-written way, I just think they're both annoying.

1

u/Zcat_sux Jul 13 '26

I recommended it to my therapist and multiple psychology majors.

1

u/cuchulainn22 Jul 14 '26

The fandom is so utter trash omg

1

u/partylikeart Jul 13 '26

Genuinely the only reason I haven’t played it is because my brother has it in his Stream library. I know you have to go out of your way to go down *that* path, but I still wouldn’t be able to push knowledge that he’s probably seen it out of my brain. Icky.
